Hi All

Desperately in need of some advice!

We're soon to be relocating to the Cirencester area and my head is spinning in circles with all the schools I've researched!

Eldest son is fine, we have a 6th form place secured for him.
My dilemma is over finding somewhere for my 11 yr old daughter and 10yr old son.

Important points for us are;

  • Ideally a coed school (will happily consider going back to SS)
  • Ideally an all through option (will happily consider all suggestions)
  • Ideally want to avoid anywhere with a hot house reputation, however, good academic attainment is imperative.
  • Somewhere nurturing and sporty

So far, we love Beaudesert however, don't really want them then moving again in a years time! Rendcomb, mixed views, like it's nurturing all inclusive environment, unfortunately it doesn't seem particularly academic enough.

Dean Close looks like it could be perfect if anyone has any advice/experience of here? Unfortunately we don't have a visit until Sept. :(

Any advice or first hand experience would be HUGELY appreciated...

Wycliffe?

Depending whereabouts in Cirencester, have a look at Malmesbury school.

Again, depending where exactly.. Cheltenham College?
You may have to narrow down your criteria a bit. Mostly prep followed by different senior school here. Are you sure your DC won't cope with two years in prep school then moving onto a senior (no doubt taking a few friends from their prep with them)? I know it isn't ideal but it opens up options a lot. Hatherop?

It's probably worth having a look at a few schools to get a feel for what you like/don't like. Every school has a different ethos and I think it's all down to the people you meet when you visit - there's only so much you can get from a website. Rendcomb is all about nurturing the individual and is well worth a look, I know a lot of other parents speak highly of it - slightly smaller than the other schools mentioned too. There's a pretty good write up on Muddy Stilettos: glos.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/national-school-reviews/rendcomb-college-senior-school-cirencester/

hatherop Castle is excellent and also does flexi boarding.

Hello everyone, I desperately need help with choosing a right private school for my son near Cirencester as we have plan to move there soon. My son will start reception in September here in Berkshire. But we might need to move in the middle of the year to Cirencester. He loves sport and I would like to find a friendly, academic and definitely sporty school if its possible at all! :) Thank you for your help :)

Hi Zhila, the good news is it's coming up to open day season at most schools so you could do a bit of window shopping in September/Oct depending on how quickly you want to make a decision. I'd say look for schools who are happy to accept mid-year starters and who will ensure your son integrates well particularly when friendship groups will already have been formed.
Do you have any schools in mind that you like the look of?

Dean’s Close has an excellent reputation. Worth a look. And you get the continuity of one school all the way through.
