Pre School / EYFS Staff

I have a Level 2 Cache TA qualification (officially called Suporting Teaching and Learning in schools) it covers child development, safeguarding, communication with children and parents, planning activities, bahviour management etc).

I’d like to work for a while in a EYFS setting Pre School or Nursery. Most adverts I can see ask for GCSE A-C (which I have) and a either Level 2 Cache EYFS child workforce qualification or another “full and relevant” Level 2 Qualification.

Does anyone here work as a manger of a nursery or Pre School perhaps? Or does anyone happen to know and can clarify if my L2 qualification is suitable for Pre School positions? Is it classed as full and relevant for staff ratios?

Thanks in advance! :)

This should answer your question as it also seems to depend on when you got your qualifications. www.gov.uk/guidance/early-years-qualifications-finder

Thank you. I’ve spent ages looking through that that page and all the links this afternoon. It’s an excellent resource but only lists Level 2 qualification that are considered full and relevant and equal to L3 EYFS not Level 2’s that are equivalent :(

Ah I see, it is so overcomplicated. Your best bet may be to ring one of the places you've seen advertising and explain the situation to see if they would accept your qualification, different nurseries may have different rules. You may also have more luck applying for reception or school nurseries as they may have a bit more flexibility with deploying staff with a range of qualifications.

The ta qualification wouldn't be suitable for work in anything outside of a school setting unfortunately op.

I'm a nursery manager and a ta qualification is not classed as a full and relevant qualification to work in a nursery
However, you can work in a setting as unqualified, so it's always worth applying as experience is always in demand
