Hi

What do you get your teachers?

There are only so many bottles of wine and champagne that a teach would want.

Looking for some more creative ideas to use

thx

I loved a purple plant pot planted with lavender. Every time I looked at it in my garden I thought of the lovely child who brought it in for me. However, no harm in asking the teacher what they are interested in. Or asking your child to ask some pertinent questions. I always hope not to get any flowers, purely as I always book a holiday for the day we break up so I never get to enjoy them!

You can never have too many bottles of d ne! Who told you that Grin

Wine!

Last year a child asked me what I loved. After a discussion about how my son wouldn't make a good present I suggested books as I love to read. She gave me a set of books by David Baddeil which I had noticed her reading. This year they were my class's favourite books in the book corner.

Previous best was a French family who gave each of their children's teachers a plant, baguette, cheese and wine.

My husband likes the chocolate and biscuits. MIL likes the wine. I love homemade jams.

Absolute best is getting a personal message of the difference they have made to your child. I save these for when I'm feeling down especially after a difficult meeting with parents or SMT.

I love the potted plant idea that does sound very special!

With the wine etc I just see teachers with cases of wine on the last day and lots of boxes of chocolates and think another bottle really isn't hear or there so I wanted to get something a bit more memorable.

I'm a teacher, I'm on a diet and I don't drink! However, bottles of wine are always useful to have to take to any parties that I'm lucky enough to be invited to!
Some of my best presents have been:
Cath Kidston mug
Nice notebooks and pens
A glasses case!
A personalised bookmark
A lovely little elephant keyring (they know I like elephants, and I still use it for my car keys!)
Bath bombs
Hand cream

Ricekrispie22 · 03/07/2018 07:03

Oh, I've also got a nice vase and a scented candle.

Either an education/child related charity donation (who needs more mugs) OR nothing now but some flowers on the first day of the new year. Or wine. These were my go-tos.

My mum often put a lottery ticket in their thank you card aswell as what ever present she was buying them for my teachers.

One teacher even won £500 om one they were made up tried to give my mum some of it but as skint as she was at the time she declined and told the teacher to go buy herself something nice or put it towards a well deserved holiday, They bought my mum a voucher for a spa day which was nice.
It is hard to know what to get teachers my son has only been in this school for one school year and is leaving for secondary but they have been amazing so I'm going to make a big cake (teacher theme) for all the staff as a thank.you for all the support they gave him this year ill get my son to pick something more personal for his class teacher though

some great ideas.

I like the added lottery ticket too as an extra little gift!

The notebook and pens sounds like a good one

I put together a big box of useful stationery items for the following school year, little things like post-it notes, highlighter pens and funky paper clips. I also added in a new mug, some Fortnum & Mason tea bags and biscuits, a huge bar of chocolate and one of those little pre-mixed g&ts in a tin. Oh and some paracetamol!

Cost me a fortune but LOVED DDs Y6 teacher and now work with her as her TA! Smile

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 03/07/2018 15:47

so far ideas shared:

  • Potted plants
  • wine
-something personalised?
  • little gift baskets (chocolates, wine, jams etc)
  • lottery tickets
  • a cake
  • flowers on start of next term
  • bath bombs
  • notebooks and pens
  • stationary
  • hand cream
-book mark

If your child was leaving and they had the most supportive teacher that was really invested in helping them with their school work ..... what then?

have you asked your child for ideas as sometimes they are surprisingly thoughtful - or at least know their interests like Miss so and so is obsessed with football or harry potter for instance.

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 03/07/2018 15:52

yes I've asked but I got answers like a 'new jacket'.... which is a bit of a big guess buying a jacket for someone.....

But I will keep asking, was hoping for some incentive here

OP posts:
grasspigeons · 03/07/2018 15:58

Grin a new jacket isn't very helpful is it

I work in a school and would say the teachers are genuinely thrilled with everything in date and unopened that they get given, and since I have seen that, I don't spend as much time trying to get something perfect. Its really hard buying something for someone you don't actually know.

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 04/07/2018 21:07

i went with a potted plant and a little personalised gift basket (jams and things)
thanks!

Amazon vouchers are always the best present for me, as then I can buy books for my kindle. Doesn’t have to be for a lot!

motherstongue · 14/07/2018 20:52

I gave little bottles of Molton Brown.
Have also given a voucher to get nails done in the past too and cineworld vouchers.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 14/07/2018 20:54

Nice stationery is always welcomed by my teacher friends, or a funky water bottle.

LockedOutOfMN · 14/07/2018 20:58

Voucher for local coffee shop, novel to read on holiday (the Eleanor Oliphant one is very good), Amazon voucher, thank you card from DC, thank you email from you copying in the Headteacher. (The latter is the best gift of all).
