PTA sports day

I am on my schools PTA. It’s a small village school. We have discussed arranging something during sports day in a months time. Can anyone tell me what their school does please. I’ve thought of serving strawberries and cream, cake and ice cream. Some of the members are keen of serving Pimms but I’m not sure. Others want to organise a fair after sports day.

My DC's infants used to have a summer fair after sports day. It always did well (captive audience!).

They used to have various children's games (hook a duck, pick a lolly etc), had a bouncy castle and face painting and sold cakes, drinks and hot dogs. The only issue you have is if sports day is cancelled because of the weather and you have to revert to plan B!

Ours is in the morning and it does bacon rolls for breakfast

Our PTFA sells cups of tea and biscuits.

I would avoid the alcohol. You would need a license. Teas and coffees and cakes (healthy snacks?) are much easier and avoids drunk parents. I have seen badly behaved parents in the parents races after a few drinks!

You could organise a raffle, a tombola and ice cream is great if you can store it on a boiling hot day. I would talk to the Head though because Sports Day is a school day, it’s not a full blown pta event. They might like help with setting up and organisation!

We are only alllowed healthy foods at our sports day, so fruit - tea and coffee. The local baker used to supply donuts but they have been deemed as unhealthy and have had to go!

Ours is in the morning. Bacon rolls and hot drinks are served by the PTA for the parents.

We used to do 'self serve for donations' tea and coffee which was low work and relatively good takings.

A BBQ always goes down well, or just a bring your own picnic type thing with a few bits and pieces for sale as well if you want? Bouncy castle?

Ours just sell ice pops.

Tea and cake works well for us. And we take a cut from the ice cream van that visits at the end of Sports day.

Mornings here and PTA serve coffee and croissants; they go down a bomb!

IMe there will be a lot of pre-schoolers there, and often also Grandparents, so worth doing a couple of 'hook a duck from a paddling pool'...... tombola type stall..... maybe facepainting / fake tattoos if you can staff that. Generally though, tea, coffee, and ice pops / ice lollies if you can manage the freezer aspect.

I wouldn't go for the cream teas as people don't want to sit around in the same way as if they've come out for a fete, they have come to watch the races / sports.
I definitely would say no to Pimms.
