Hello! New on here but moving to Virginia water in a few months and looking at LVS Ascot for my 3 children - Boy/Girl twins age 9 and DD age 5 wanting to keep them together through to 6th form without having to change school and have the option of boarding so this school seems ideal for our needs- would love to know any up to date opinions or any other options similar in the area please. TIA!!

ACS Egham might also be another option - it is co-ed 4 to 18.

CraftyGin · 17/04/2018 19:12

Would not choose LVS. It has a very poor reputation for an independent school

Go for Bishopsgate and then go through the motions for senior school.

CraftyGin · 17/04/2018 19:13

ACS Egham is good but very, very expensive for a day school.

Hello, there is a new Head of the Junior School, I would suggest you go and visit and meet her. I have heard she is very good and has made a real impact. There are waiting lists now for some year groups.

GU24Mum · 11/05/2018 08:03

I was going to suggest Bishopsgate too. Looking for co-ed 4-18 is really going to limit your choices and there are lots of good schools which you may like - but which aren't that type of school. If you want other choices - and on the basis that you are happy to drive to North Ascot - what about Hall Grove or Lambrook?

10 yers ago is irrelevant now. However, there are better schools and children can get very stale in a through school. It is not ideal as one size never fits all. I would choose schools according to the strengths and needs of your children and their interests and hobbies. I would alsi consider future schools. As you have Lambrook Prep and Papplewick in Ascot you have schools that prepare more effectively for senior education. Far better options in my view.

Jellycat1 · 07/06/2019 07:42

Following with interest. We're also relocating to Ascot - very close to LVS. I had actually discounted it as heard and read it's not the best academically. We had decided to focus on the local preps instead as there is so much choice.

Aid2013 · 07/06/2019 10:24

Jellycat1 · 08/06/2019 10:24

Our not so short list is: Papplewick, Woodcote House and Lambrook. We are also going to see Hall Grove and St Johns Beaumont soon. Each have pros and cons. My boys are 3 and 5 so we'll register now to start in a couple of years.

luckymummy29 · 22/08/2019 08:52

Hi all, I’m completely new here and have only just come across this discussion. We are due to move to the Ascot area from East Yorkshire next Summer and I’m currently looking at schooling options for my three boys; will be aged 3, 8 and 12 when they commence September 2020.

Any help and advice would be very much appreciated, my knowledge of the area is limited; we have researched several schools and will be arranging visits over the coming months. I’m currently leaning towards Lambrook?

I look forward to hearing from you!

Jellycat1 · 22/08/2019 09:17

Hi @luckymummy29 - well lots of questions really. Are you ok with some boarding? Papplewick is our first choice but it's all boys and boarding is compulsory in Yrs 7 and 8. Several of my family went there and all loved it and did extremely well.
I like the look of Lambrook and have had friends there - different kettle though - co-ed and more than twice the size of Papplewick. We're also registered at St Johns Beaumont which I loved. I'll make the call next year between SJB and Papplewick. SJB is all boys and a little larger than Papplewick but not as big as Lambrook. Has a great vibe. Also more flexible re day / boarding. We are registered for two boys Yr2/3 entry.

Jellycat1 · 22/08/2019 09:25

If you want them all together Papplewick would be no good for you though as starts in Yr 2. Lambrook and SJB have lovely Nursery classes. Also you'd have to check the schools would take a new starter into Yr 8 - I'm not sure about that.

luckymummy29 · 22/08/2019 09:39

Hi Jellycat1, Thankyou for responding so quickly. I’m finding the whole process slightly daunting so I really appreciate the guidance! I think we’d prefer Co-Ed, which is the only thing that has put me off considering Papplewick, but perhaps it wouldn’t be a factor if they are moving for seniors. I hadn’t considered boarding for the boys as the older two would rather stay at home at this stage, however our daughter boards at Sedbergh in Cumbria and absolutely loves it.

I think the thing that worries me the most is registration waiting lists and whether my options will be limited for 2020 entry?

Jellycat1 · 22/08/2019 10:04

Ah ok it sounds like Lambrook would be a good option then or there's Hall Grove too. I didnt visit the latter but looks good from the website. I'd get in touch with them asap and find out what the waiting lists are like.

Jellycat1 · 22/08/2019 10:30

There is obviously LVS too! Let us know if you look round!

cia3 · 08/10/2019 09:24

You might want to read the recent ISI report about LVS Ascot.
Https:www.isi.net/school/lvs-ascot-7140
Prior to the inspection, the Principal ‘guaranteed ‘ to the staff and pupils that they would achieve ‘Outstanding ‘. Not only didn’t they come close, but only scraped a ‘good’ for Education, and failed for ‘Compliance’. This was because some staff had not even been vetted, thus the safety of the pupils could not be guaranteed. Despite this, she described it as ‘an outstanding achievement’ (presumably to get the word ‘outstanding ‘ into the text) and one of the Trustees described it as ‘wonderful ‘.

legoninjago1 · 09/10/2019 12:36

That's interesting. It does seem a quite hit and miss place. Any parents with views on here?

Mustbetimeforachange · 09/10/2019 23:12

I work with someone who was badly bullied there. The school took no notice and tried to blame her. She moved schools but is still suffering poor mental health as a result 8 years later. Academically it's not bad at GCSE. At A level it seems to fall apart a bit.

yes123341 · 12/10/2019 02:48

Well, I can tell you that this is complete bullocks. My children go to LVS sixth from. Both got As and A* in their GCSEs as well as many of their friends. Never heard of any bullying issues lately.
