Ofsted oblivious to snow

Don't want to say where, but some of my pupils incredibly upset this morning. Apparently ofsted did not agree with their snow closure of one day a couple of weeks ago so the school have to make the time up? Head has written to all the parents asking if they would prefer the extra day to happen on a Saturday or in the Easter holidays! Surely she's got the wrong end of the stick? Can't believe they would do this! 😤

Why would they be upset? It’s really not a big deal? What’s the problem?

admission · 12/03/2018 15:28

The decision to shut the school is the head teachers to make, nobody else and would normally not be for the snow but the health and safety risks associated with the snow and ice.
Ofsted are there to inspect schools and not dictate policy to schools, so I would be very surprised if the school was being told directly by Ofsted to make up the day.

WhatCanIDoNowPlease · 12/03/2018 15:28

That sounds weird.

I suspect a lot of the children will be feeling off colour that day and unfortunately will be unable to attend.

doowapwap · 12/03/2018 15:40

I didn't realise ofsted could do that!

Middleoftheroad · 12/03/2018 17:44

Good luck with that one!

bookgirl1982 · 12/03/2018 17:53

That's not ofsted's call, sounds like the head using them as an excuse

MrsKCastle · 12/03/2018 17:58

Sounds like something made up to give pupils a 'real' purpose to their writing. Let's all write to ofsted using our best persuasive language and make them change their minds.

threeelephants · 12/03/2018 18:01

You do know that this is just a writing task? Fantastic that the kids believe it and care though! They'll do some brilliant persuasive letters in response!

threeelephants · 12/03/2018 18:02

Hang on 'my pupils'? Are you the teacher?

LynetteScavo · 12/03/2018 18:08

Did the HT close the school during an inspection, as the inspectors couldn't see any snow? Grin

MyNameIsNotSteven · 12/03/2018 18:11

Ate you sure this isn't the writing stimulus a teacher made up for her class to argue for / against?

stringmealong · 12/03/2018 18:12

I'm just a visiting teacher so was very confused

So you're on supply? Yeah I think you've missed a memo somewhere!

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 12/03/2018 19:06

It's not real OP!

stringmealong · 12/03/2018 19:07

I shall find out next Monday when I'm next in- if it's a literacy project it is a very good one!

The oldest trick in the book - prank the supply!

BusterTheBulldog · 12/03/2018 20:25

I saw this letter on Facebook, wasn’t sure if joke or not?!

PuppyMonkey · 12/03/2018 20:30

“Why would they be upset? It’s really not a big deal? What’s the problem?”

Grin

Classic MN post.

TeenTimesTwo · 12/03/2018 21:34

Our local primary seems to have told some of the pupils something similar. One of the y6s told me today that the DoE had written asking them to explain what learning they did in the snow or something ...
(I told her I suspected the school was making it up as a literacy task).
