Careers Evenings/fairs

At what stage do you start attending careers evenings etc?

DS is in year 9 and has already started his options as he is at a school where they start them at the beginning of year 9 as opposed to year 10 as in the majority of schools in this area.

It seems way too early to attend such an event at 13 years old or am I being a bit ignorant?

Thanks for taking the time to read and hopefully reply

Drum
Our inadequate rated comp, holds one every year. All year 9 to 11 get invite, plus year 12's too late for year 13s.
Wide range on offer, from army/raf and welbeck 6th form to apprenceships and universities/medical schools.
Year 9&10 gives them ideas what to aim/widen oppuntunities.
Year 9's and 12/13 also attend local university and its ucas fairs.
We live next to a city with 1 in 4 kids live in poverty and 8000 primary school children have never left the city boundaries.
We have children's university to help broaden their horisons, hopefully.

Ours do this in year 9.

We go out to schools to talk about careers. We start with primary schools. They're never top young to start thinking about out it, even if they change their minds several times a day.

Those who want to go into something like medicine do need an awareness of which subjects to choose for GCSE and A-level, so 13 isn't too young. Plenty of others still won't have the first idea for years yet, and that's fine too.

If your DS is choosing his GCSEs he will need to be sure not to drop a subject which he later wants to take at A Level and/or a career. To take a subject at A level you generally need to have taken it at GCSE, with a few exceptions. We found the following useful:
