Year 6 SATS

Hi my Daughter (11) has her SATS (year6) coming up. The problem is She has a Diagnosis of Sensory Processing Difficulties, Anxiety, Low Self Esteem, Signs of Rigidity and Possible Specific Learning Difficulties. Her emotional age is of a 6 year old but Academically she is six months behind in maths and not at National Standard, her Writing is not at National Standard and her Punctuation is on the cusp. My issue is that she is hating all the SAT prep she is doing and doesn't want to do the SATS at all. The stress is too much for her to bear especially as they have already said she is not at National Standard. Can I remove her from SATS? As really it will cause more harm then good.

The decision whether a child sits the tests is one for the Headteacher, who has a duty to ensure that children do! The only real way you could remove her is for her to be absent for the week of SATS and the following week too. However she will still have all the SATS prep to work through so there might not be much advantage in missing the tests!
I am however confused about levels-you say she is 6 months behind in maths. This is not a great deal and she would certainly be able to access the tests ( which is why the Head has a duty to ensure she sits them!)

She shouldn't be feeling stressed about SATs. Who is causing the stress? SATs are to assess how well the school has taught the children not how clever the children are. There are many different ways to be clever etc and the ability to do well in tests is just one of them.

Thank you all, my Daughter has Learning disabilities along with SPD, Anxiety, Signs of Rigidity and Low self esteem she was stressing because she wasn't coping and only scored 2 in one of the practice runs, the six months behind is what the school were claiming, but it's evident it's more then six months. Since I posted last I have De registered my Daughter from school and am home educating her. This wasn't a decision I made lightly but was the right one for her. I no longer have to worry about her stressing over Satts. And she is a lot calmer. Smile

You are quite within you rights as a parent to remove her from the tests. I have first hand experience of this.
Contact the head, describe what you have told us and tell them your child is to be removed from the tests.
You aren't asking permission.
Your child may well remain in the process of SATs prep though,so you might want to decide how you approach that.
If such anxiety is being displayed there really is a problem in the schools approach (sadly this is common).

Request a meeting asap.

My son has autism and I was told I could make the decision if he should sit them or not. He will be but he doesn't struggle with anxiety. Speak to the senco.

Foxsox and Titsywoo, the OP has already said that she has deregistered her child from school and is home educating her!
