Looking to buy a house in Surrey

Good evening,
We are planning to move out of Surbiton to get into the property ladder.
We are thinking about moving to Addleston in Surrey but we know nothing about the area.
We have one child age 3 yrs. So estate schools are important for us both primary and secondary schools.
I work in Chertsey and my hubby work in Redhill and we thought about Addleston so I can be close from home and my DS school in the future.
My hubby is planning to move his job to London and therefore the train station shouldn't be far away.

Any suggestion or information will be very helpfull.

Thanks
Haneen

I don't know Addlestone, but Bookham and The Howard of Effingham school might be worth a look?

What's your budget? Addlestone not the nicest of areas tbh....

Haneen81 · 20/01/2018 11:17

Our budget is £550,000

West Byfleet or Woodham?

thatisnotanoption · 24/01/2018 21:52

Personally I would avoid Addlestone.

The previous suggestions of Bookham or West Byfleet areas would be better (more extensive than Addlestone but not as pricey as the Horsley or Weybridge).

I would consider the actual commute to London carefully - how frequent, direct and busy are the trains from your chosen town.

Haneen81 · 25/01/2018 12:20

Thank you all for your suggestions. They were very helpful.

We did go around West Byfleet and we liked it. Already started looking for houses there. I may need some info about the surrounding schools as for my DS.

Here's the place to research Surrey school info such as last distance admitted - www.surreycc.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/schools

Thank you SheilaFentiman

Depending where in West Byfleet, the state primary has a good size catchment so you'd probably find yourself in there. It's currently rated 1 by Ofsted.

Glad you liked it. It's a lovely area plus it's just about to be regenerated (they will remove the hideous building in the town!).

CraftyGin · 30/01/2018 18:53

There are very nice parts of Addlestone and the town has had massive regeneration.

Don’t be put off by snobs who look down on Addlestone and Chertsey.

RandomMess · 30/01/2018 19:00

The road traffic is very congested around Chertsey/Addlestone/West Byfleet.

If you are practicing catholic that opens a lot more schools to you.

If you are happy with a 2 or 3 bed house your budget can buy in a good area - by this I mean a short walk to Weybridge station which would open up commuting to London and Chertsey by train. When the fast line to London gets shit (passenger incidence Sad) the stop line via Addlestone is always running!!!

Another option is Virginia Water?

West Byfleet is fine it's just the traffic to Chertsey is hideous...

What kind of lifestyle are you wanting???

CraftyGin · 30/01/2018 19:38

The traffic is mostly fine.

RandomMess · 30/01/2018 21:13

@CraftyGin not my experience of driving between Addlestone and Chertsey in rush hour!!! I ended up cycling as it was quicker... very scary at certain parts but definitely quicker!

I think op needs to consider the commute to London over size/type of house. Personally I'd choose smaller home and fast train options with short walk to station. OP may prefer larger Home then Addlestone gives more options.

My kids have all been to school in either Chertsey or Addlestone and the only times there have been problems on the Road was when they were being dug up for new water mains.
