Primary school application

Hi there

I submitted my child’s primary school application for this September. We have lived in our property for 5 years but need to move having had a second child. We would only be moving a few miles but would be outside of the schools we applied for catchment.

Are we safe to try and sell before we find out about his school place in April? Or do we need to wait until after April? Or after he starts in September? Just wanting to see the application is based on where we live now or for the rest of this year.

Thanks in advance.

No. Don't sell....you need to stay put.

Get him in...bum on seat.

Then look at selling.

It depends on where you live. The rules vary from LA to LA. You certainly don't have to wait until September. There is likely to be some date between now and April when you can move without it affecting school applications.

In my area we are told to watch house moves for six months after the child starts school and report any 'suspicious' behaviour to the LA.

Stay where you are until national offer day.

You may also want to look at sibling priority. If the school your elder child goes to doesn't do sibling priority (and this is more likely if you've moved out of area), you could easily have a situation where you have to be in two places at once for drop off).

Thank you everyone! Think we will stay put for now x

I echo matildas point. Youngest dd has been to 2 primary schools in 2 different locations. In both they have ammended the rules from looked after, health plans, siblings, catcment, distance to looked after, health plans, siblings in catchment, catchment, siblings out of catchment, distance. In a popular school it makes a big difference.
