Graphics GCSE pros and cons

Ds wants to make this one of his choices. I'm willing to go with it but would rather he chose Art or Computing, both of which he has 'gone off'. He thinks that he might possibly want to train as a graphic designer. Would love to hear anything about this as a qualification?

Art Graphics or Design Technology specialising in Graphic Products?

I did graphics at GCSE -wasn't particularly arty but we had to choose a technology and there was no way in hell I was going to do what I saw as a traditionally female subject such as cooking (I was a strong feminist and wouldn't be stereotyped!).

Considering I didn't even know what it would entail, I loved it and got an A!
It was a very good idea to balance out my other essay heavy options with a creative outlet too. I will be encouraging my daughter to do the same.

I don't think many schools offer this as a GCSE option. I would check the difference between Graphics and Art with the teachers before making a decision.
dd is taking Graphics A level and they accepted GCSEs in any Art (or design i.e. DT) subject for the course. What attracted her to this course was that it covered a greater skills set i.e. designing using a computer whereas the Art department seemed to be more focused on drawing and painting i.e. Fine Art.
Computing GCSE wouldn't be very relevant as it's more about programming.

Our school offers this for a GCSE and a few of DD'S friends are planning to take it for A level aiming to move into graphic design or web design. They seem to have enjoyed designing a board game or similar for their coursework. It's given them access to art courses at A level without taking an art GCSE.
