Anyone know anything about art bursaries for private secondary schools?

That's it really. DS is a talented artist and would like to go to a school which is 12 grand a year. He is bright enough to pass the entrance exam but we couldn't afford the full fees and would get probably virutally no discount due to income.

Hi, OhDearie,
I think each school has its own rules for scholarships (which are based on a specific talent - sport, art etc - or high academic achievement) as opposed to a bursary which is based on income. Our local private school definitely does art scholarships - you have to produce a portfolio of work plus pass the entrance test obviously!!! Different schools offer different percentages off the fees as well - have you looked at the school's website? Most schools are pretty good about putting the scholarship details on their websites.

Hope this helps!

DD's school also offers art/music/sport scholarships at secondary level. AS Elenya says they are required to pass the entrance exam/interview. IIRC they also have to discuss why they really love art/music/sport and have a reasonable knowledge the area, as well as being especially talented.

Also, in terms of art scholarships specifically I think the information given on the Dulwich College website is quite helpful even if you aren't considering that school. I know it mentions producing original art work as opposed to copies of other work, for example. Our local school usually only offers a 20-25% scholarship for art, just to give a ball park figure - other schools could be more or less than that (I think some are only 10%). You may be able to get an academic scholarship as well. You also usually have to apply separately for arts scholarships, unlike academic ones where everyone is automatically considered.
