If you move to a new area and your 3 nearest schools are religious ones, but you are not religious at all, can you still get your children into the school because it is their nearest ??

look on the local authority website and see what the schools' entry criteria are.

NuttyMuffins · 18/04/2007 13:42

So even if you move say half way through a school year, you still don't stand much chance ??

Am only asking because I have been offered a housing exchange from here (sutton coldfield brum) to lichfield and have been checking out schools and the 1st nearest is CofE, 2nd is Catholic and 3rd is CofE, with the first non religious school being quite a distance away, not walkiing distance either.

don't forget to be nice as pie to the school secretary, you may need their help

Marina · 18/04/2007 13:47

Nutty, some schools will give helpful consideration to the fact that you are a single parent
You need to ask the schools. Good luck.

Blimey it appears complicated.

Have looked on relevent sit and am non the wiser.

The move is only a possibility at the mo, haven't even looked at the house on offer yet, nor her mine so don't know if i'd be being a bit previous to go ringing round schools.

If the move happened before sept, I would need places for Dd1 in yr 4 and Dd2 in yr2, but the major problem I can forsee is that DS starts receotion in Sept and all the places will have been allocated.

Bite the bullet and ring the schools nutty, no point in considering the house if the schools can't accommodate your kids.

NuttyMuffins · 18/04/2007 14:15

Am just waiting for the lady to email me back to confirm postcode first as I have searched for the road the house is on and if the house on offer is where it is showing up as then I will feel sick with excitment as it is fanblooytastic.

i stayed in lichfield once, it seemed like a nice town

My three nearest schools are all faith schools. One is really oversubscribed, it's in the top 5% of primaries in the country, even so, lots of non-churchgoers get in because they live in the catchment area.

Both the other two are slightly oversubscribed but only because people from the nearest towns try their luck. This year lots will be lucky because it's a very low birth rate.
