Three Day Trial

We have applied for an independent who require the child to attend school for three days as part of their admissions process. DS (6)6 is currently in state. What do I tell his current school? Should be honest and say we're trailing a new school? My main concern is we're currently applying for an EHCP and I'm worried if the new school say no, and we stay at current school, they'll not be as supportive as they should be knowing we want to leave... any experiences?

I would probably tell the truth. If you try to fake an illness or pretend you're away at wedding etc a 6 year-old is likely to be excited and tell the teacher was happened anyway and you'll look terrible.

I am not sure how long the EHCP takes or how far you are in it, but would it even be concluded by the time you move schools? I can see that the school could get a bit reluctant to put the effort in if the child is moving but imagine that with pressure from yourself they would carry on regardless.

As it's a state school (rather than private to private) I wouldn't worry about it at all. Children go out to visit new schools when they have moved area (but still local so still attending old school) and some children do move to private schools (although normally at the end of primary).
Helps the office to put the correct code on the attendance register.

Do the independent know that you are applying for an EHCP?

thanks JoJoSM2 > good advice, he'll totally tell his LSA/teacher. on advice, we're planning to wait until we have the EHCP and then will move.

JennyBlueWren > so there's an attendance code which covers visiting other schools??

and yes proplapsingallover the independent knows we're in assessment at the moment, and they've spoken with their LA who have also suggested waiting until we have the plan to move (otherwise they will essentially start the process again)
