Anyone had any experience with "lessons in the post" for 11+ tuition?

Team!

I know not everyone is a fan, but we are at the beginning of our 11+ journey. DD has just gone into Y5. They do some 11+ prep at school, and I was happy to leave it at that, but everyone seems to have a tutor! (This is all new to me - I'm not from round here...)

Has anyone had any experience of "Lessons in the post" as a distance learning provider? I am happy to put in the work with her and have a background in training and exam preparation (for adults), just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on the quality of their material/support.

Grateful for any thoughts

Thank you lovelies

I have no experience of 'Lessons in the post', but my DD goes to SS grammar and I just bought some CEM books from WH smith and did about half an hour every couple of days in the summer hols before the test. We only went to the open day and decided to apply in the July before the test.

I think you just need to find out what test the local grammar do and buy the books just to get her used to the kinds of questions which might come up.

Also my DD just went to a state primary where they do no 11 + work at school and actively discourage anyone from doing it! Confused

Thanks Tinty. They are about to change from CEM to GL here. I will have a chat with her teacher and see what she has to say. xxx

Try the elevenplusforum (Google it) for more traffic. If you are in Bucks as I'm sure this Will come up in discussion again later when new exam format information is announced for the Bucks folks, in that forum I just mentioned.

Thank you. Will check it out. This is all new to me. xxx

Btw we are doing CGP books plus schofield and Sims to keep up skills. I bought a selection to try out. My dd is coping well. We are also bucks too so in similar boat but not using an external tutor. Would suggest buying a few books to try out whilst we wait for the GL information.

Thanks @CookieDoughKid Good luck. xxx

you don't need a tutor.

Get the correct books, eg CPG books, and male sure she can do all the maths in them.
Work in increasing her vocab through this year.

Closer to the time do some exam practice/sample tests (there are some in the back of those books)

Given you've got some experience, I also think you can manage without a tutor provided that you DD is bright and you're disciplined with your practice. I think the only aspects some parents find tricky is writing as they aren't sure how it should be graded or taught if the child isn't there yet.

Just get a bunch of books - CEM or GL or other - all good practice. Just focus more on the right type for a few weeks before the exam.
