What happens if our kids don't get the grades needed - is anyone else worried?

I am not talking about my kid getting A+++ but just enough for him to get to college.

I know how you feel.

My DS is waiting for his A level results and there are 3 options -

  1. Gets the right grades and he gets onto his uni course.
  1. Fails badly and goes back to school to do them again for another year.
  1. Which worries me the most, narrowly misses grades but uni course is filled with students who did well and they won't accept him.

In the same boat here. Waiting on DS' resit English GCSE. He needs a pass to be able to apply to the trade he wants in the RAF. Without it he wont be able to apply.

My fingers, toes and eyes are crossed.

Persian if 3's the case, get him to see if his course is anywhere through clearing.

What Throughthickorthin said.

When I did my A levels we agreed that we would meet at a particular friend's house once we were sorted. Loads of people missed their grades - some by loads, some only by a little bit.

I had got my grades so went round there straight after lunch.

Throughout the afternoon more and more people arrived announcing excitedly that they were going to "X". By the end of the day practically everyone was sorted with a choice they were happy with.

I still look back on that day as an example of "things do tend to work out ok if you just deal with them calmly and rationally". (I have a tendency towards worry and panic.)

"the grades needed"

(a) will your child benefit enough from University to justify the £45,000 in student loans they will incur?
(b) will they get the grades to get them into a job that gives them the chance of later progression
(c) will they get the grades to get onto a course that makes them happy
(d) if they care about none of the above, time for them to pay rent and you to stop worrying
