Well they are good schools. Both are comps in fairly wealthy areas. They aren't stellar given their social economic backgrounds but they are state schools after all (Langtree I know not Piggots). They are just good comp schools. What you after in particular?

I've visited both in a work capacity. Very impressed by 6th formers at Piggott. Am always slightly wary of schools without 6th form as I think they sometimes lose a little something in terms of aspiration, but I don't sense this at Langtree and I love the ethos of their challenge award. That being said I would base my decision on location if you already have one. If one of those entails negotiating Henley traffic, pick the other one!!

Thanks. Where do most Langtree pupils go for 6th form?
Does Piggott feel huge in comparison to Langtree?
Similar demographic at both?
Do you know anything about pastoral care at either?
Strengths or weaknesses ?
Appreciated.

Most Langtree pupils go to Henley College though I'm sure there are some who go to school sixth forms www.langtreeschool.com/the-henley-college/

I've only ever been involved with small subsets of pupils so I've not got a sense of how big each school feels but Piggott is just under 3x the size of Langtree so yes it will feel huge in comparison. Then again Langtree is tiny for a secondary school!

You can look up % of FSM and high/middle achievers on gov website but I imagine they are roughly the same demographic: Well off, leafy villages and small towns.

Afraid I don't know a huge amount about pastoral care. I would again emphasise that you shouldn't underestimate Henley traffic. It can take 20 minutes to get through the town most times of day.

Not much help - but I went to Piggott school in the eighties - it has changed beyond recognition!Smile

I should think and expect good- not sure if you can imagine comprehensive in the 80,s in that area. The only difference now is that back then - it was probably mostly children of working class families as the area was not as wealthy as it is today. But saying that I loved being at school - but that's probably more to do with home life being so awful - than the actual learning. Grinbut I am. Not sure about Langtree as I didn't know the school - but I remember Wokingham and woodley /winnersh schools were rated lightly better.

Are you thinking about moving into the area, because those schools have very different and separate catchment areas, don't they?

We know people with kids at both schools, all seem to be thriving. No reports of problems from those families.

Statistics proved quite interesting:

Piggott's has much higher Progress 8 than Langtree (0.64 to 0.36) 0.36 is actually good but 0.64 is exceptional.

More interesting stats found in splitting boys and girls - boys do miles better at Piggott's. Progress 8 0.73 compared to 0.19 and Attainment 8 of 59.3 compared to 52.5. 79% Eng and Maths GCSE compared to 67% Those are quite big differences. Girls, on the other hand, do equally well at both.

So if DD is a girl pick whichever one you fancy, if you have a boy think seriously about Piggott's.
