Which i should be pleased at!

Said its only downfall was letting the children take holidays in term time ( But the head said he would continue as holidays were educational in themselves!)

Sadly I am not that enamoured of the school ...should i change my veiws now i have seen that 'those in the know' think its fabuloso?

what are your problems with it?

NotanOtter · 21/03/2007 09:45

I dont think it produces very mature children and split age classes means i dont not feel friendships are as 'bonded' as they could be
School favours staffs kids 'big time'
not enough done for very bright end of spectrum

Our primary school got outstanding in every area too apart from attendance as well which was due to letting children go on holiday in term time. The head is going to continue this as well until holiday companies stop overcharging families more to go away in school holiday time. The primary school itself is wonderful they go above and beyond what is required so if this is anything to go by getting outstanding in Ofsted is definately a good thing.

i almost hate myself for feeling such resentment towards what is apparently such an excellent school

I used to teach at a school which got an "outstanding".

I could see many many things wrong with it.

OFSTED are only there for a few days, they don't know everything that goes on.

I'm sure the school has a lot going for it, but you can still trust your own judgement IMO.

I was a teacher, and OFSTED isn't everything. They are only there for a short time, plus they give warning they are coming. Even the worst teacher can look good with enough time to prepare. Go with your gut instinct, if you don't like a school then look around for somewhere else if possible. Our local school also had an outstanding report v recently, and hopefully DD1 will get in, but I'm sending her (hopefully!) there because I liked the school, not because of the OFSTED report. HTH

Only 3 days to prepare now, specifically brought in to address this problem, colander. Ours is tomorrrow, and we found out Monday.(Eek!)

NotanOtter, follow your instincts. If you don't feel at home at the school or feel that your LO won't "fit" there, then don't do it. Everyone is different so, no matter how good, the school won't suit everyone. Very tough decision, though, and I don't envy you.

Twiglett · 21/03/2007 10:11

I think your gut feeling and personal experience should way outweigh OFSTED who IMHO are a bunch of bureaucratic half-wits judging a school on its very best behaviour

Enid · 21/03/2007 10:17

dd1s primary also got outstanding in evertyhihg

there are probs with it but tbh you'd have to be bloody picky to change schools - although some do

the headmistress is a right old dragon for a start

Enid · 21/03/2007 10:17

actually a group of parents complained to ofsted over its outstanding report

they got short shrift apparently

I try and stay out of all this

Local school had glowing ofsted but a friends dd stared school thier and was very unhappy and her parents felt their worries were not be hear. Just to add to this every one was saying to her, but it such a good school and look at the ofsted report (which had just come out)
In the end she moved her dd to a different school which is not consider a good school but on the way up. Great ofsted this year but not so good a few years back, when freinds dd started. She has been very happy their from day one and parents are happy.
One thing I do remember friend saying was that the local school never felt right for them but they send dd because it was considered such a good school.
On the other hand the local school is where my dd goes and she is very happy. So much so that when she started she got upset at weekends because there was no school.
The moral of the story is go with your gut feeling what right for one is not right for another. Ofsted is not everything only a guide.
