This whole thing with parents these days is just so sad. The pressure on little ones is completely ridiculous. It's only with the benefit of hindsight you can actually see the bigger picture.
What is the ultimate reason for ensuring your child is in a good school ? Be it a state school a pre prep , a grammar, a high performing secondary, or a 'thousands of pounds a year top public school. ' ?
The answer is the same I think for ALL parents. You all want to give them the best chance in life. And of course to be happy.
When you work out that the last stage in all of this obsessive hot- housing is the same regardless of what 'route' you take, then you will realise the ONLY important thing is to encourage, support love and LISTEN to your child.
It matters not one jot if your child gets into some prepress nonsense that JUDGES (!!!) a child of three years old as 'not being good enough'
But the question HAS to be WHY WHY WHY would you want your child educated by people who think that way. ? It's obscene.
My children went to a village primary, a comprehensive (as I don't agree with 11+) and did their A levels there.
They are BOTH at the same 3rd ranked University with their friends from Nursery who went to pre prep - grammar and pre-prep - Tonbridge (33k p.a) ...
The HOURS spent tutoring for 11+ .. and obsessing over common entrance .. not to mention the 100k plus on fees.. It's beyond ridiculous, because ultimately you can buy your way all the way up the education system but thank god, you can't buy a decent university place. That is still down to your own hard work - and long may it be so.
Chill out. Enjoy your child and DO NOT get wrapped up in competitive parenting with those that know the price of everything but the value of nothing. The entire thing is pointless.
