can you do it and if so tell me how

Parcel V is 1/4 kg lighter than x
Parcel W is 1/2kg heavier than v
parcel x is half the mass of z
Parcel y is double the mass of v
Parcel z is 1 1/4 more than X

What is the mass of each parcel

Wow, I can do a 7 year old Maths homework . Seriously I was pretty good at Maths at that age, but no way I could have done that at 7.

not sure snorkle - in ds2 year there is a group of amazing mathematicians.

dd is very good at maths - she is taken out with two others for exteneded mathes

CODalmighty, what's "modern" maths then, and what's so stupid about teaching logic / algebra (to those who took the complicated approach!) to kids?

ScummyMummy · 20/03/2007 08:25

Just showed this to my son who is nearly 8 and he said "That's really hard. Poor girl."

Gingermonkey · 20/03/2007 08:42

My dd is 7, but takes after me and dh and is useless at maths. She had long division the other day (good old fashioned maths, like we used to have!) and it took me ages to explian it to her. DH couldn't grasp it at all! Now, languages, sports, art and english we can help with and not have a problem ourselves!!! You know what?, I have seriously considered getting a new maths GCSE because I dread to think how the future maths homework is going to look and it scares the s**t out of me!!! . If she'd have come home with that homework I would have cried with her!

I wasn't being flippant either btw, beets! Just thought it was funny how horrified my son was at the idea of being expected to answer such a question.

Batters, what about your dp? Can he do maths at all?

Beetrootccio · 20/03/2007 09:46

no i know scummy - ds2 was pretty horrified as well!! and he is 11

Send him on a course, batters! Or go on one yourself? My dad went on one so he could help me and my sis, apparently. Isn't that sweet? But we were horrible and rejected his help mostly anyway unless he wanted to do it for us... [horrible ungrateful brat emoticon]

I went to see her teacher (she said dd was wonderful and if she had a daughter she would ike one jsut like dd}

I asked her about themaths and she said that she gives three children in the class extra maths for them to do at home becasue they need stretching. She said it was fine to do it with someone else.

Tried this on my 11 year old who has just passed her 11+, and she said she had no idea where to start!
