Independent schools with strong swimming and caring atmosphere

Hi. I have a child with a really keen interest in sport, swimming in particular and he seems pretty good. I find it hard to fit training in around everything else so have started to consider an independent where he can do his training around school. I would hope to send his sibling there too who isn't as sporty. I would like somewhere that is pastoral but gets good grades. Historically I know Millfield has always been a winner but wondered if anyone could suggest alternatives? Thanks

2014newme nowhere does it say that the sibling is a 'he' in the op Hmm

Wisteriainwhite · 17/05/2017 22:19

But well done for being rude.

2014newme · 17/05/2017 23:00

@wisteriainwhite

It's rude not to read the op. She says somewhere he can do his training. Thus a clue it's a boy. 🕵🕵🕵🕵

2014newme · 17/05/2017 23:01

Also "his training"and" he's pretty good".
🕵🕵 methinks it could possibly be a male she us referring to....

Wisteriainwhite · 17/05/2017 23:12

And the rudeness continues...

I talking about the sibling

Wisteriainwhite · 17/05/2017 23:14

Try reading posts properly before jumping in with your arrogant quips and multiple emoji pictures.

Anyway op, if you are still reading, is his sibling a boy or a girl as obviously if you want them to go to the same school, that will affect your choice and suggestions too.

ealingwestmum · 18/05/2017 09:45

I read your comment as referring to sibling Wisteriainwhite as I too had the same question mark as to filtering prospect schools to accommodate both, as commented in my post on OP's parallel thread in secondary education

It's not you.

Thanks for all the replies. Definitely food for thought about different set ups. Thinking it may be wiser to look at schools with good access to swimming and tutoring but being a member of an external club if that makes sense. We re in East Anglia area currently but could move as considering it anyway! Sibling also a ds sorry I dint make that clear. Would prefer coed given the option though!

Bedes in East Sussex has a fantastic swimming programme. Facilities are top notch & fees very reasonable

Brighton College offered Tom Daley a place when he chose Plymouth. I wasn't impressed with the pool which is old & in need of a major overhaul when my kids swam there

OCSockOrphanage · 27/05/2017 20:53

Tom Daley came from Plymouth, so don't read too much into his choice of school. He was being badly bullied in another Plymouth school apparently.

1busybee · 04/06/2017 09:12

Have you got personal experience of Bedes @ABitOTT? Looks like a lovely school. Anyone heard anything about Bishops Stortford College?

Bishops Storford College is fab and it's has a very well equipped sports centre ncludi g massive pool. I can't say wether the have. Dedicated coach but the school is fabulous.

Ellesmere college has a swim team ellesemere titans. www.ellesmere.com/the-schools/all/clubs-and-societies/sport/swimming/
I have some friends who are in the swim club and it seems to be very successful. Don't know anymore. Than that

Planningoz · 15/07/2017 11:11

Did you make a decision? If you are in East Anglia I would have thought the swimming coaching at Ipswich Swimming Club would be as good / better than any of the swim schools mentioned. Don't know what schools are like there though - but do consider the advantages of having DC at home rather than sending them away to boarding school unless that is something you are set on for a particular reason. Many who go to millfield etc lose interest in swimming and are essentially stuck at a school which you might otherwise not have chosen. Anecdotally a lot of swimmers are currently leaving Plymouth since John Rudd has left and the boarding there has had less than favourable reviews.

Devilishpyjamas · 16/07/2017 16:20

Plymouth college. Ruta MeilutytÄ— went there as well. They're very used to building lessons around sport (they also have high level fencers at Plymouth college).

Used to be Mount Kelly that was the place for swimming but seems to be Plymouth College these days.

GinGarden · 17/07/2017 11:08

Culford nr Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk has a great pool and is close enough to Bury for more swim training if required.

Planningoz · 17/07/2017 13:23

If you plan to move house then Guildford swimming Club and High Wycombe Swimming Club are both very successful as is Ealing- all have swimmers going to European and/or world and/or Commonwealth Juniors. Maidenhead too I think. In Bucks you have grammar schools too
