KS1 SATS to go?!

Too good to be true?

Have headteachers heard anything or is it purely a new idea at this stage. Presumably this year's will still go ahead?

Anyone?!

At the end of the day a secretary of state is meant to be there for the pupils.

Speaking as someone with a child currently facing "new GCSEs" that's the funniest thing I've read all day!

If they are abolishing very formal exams in year 2, that seems positive. But I'm not convinced that abolishing any kind of assessment at 7 is great news. Children enter Reception at such different stages of development, I feel that some sort of marker halfway through primary school should still be in place.

I'd rather normal teacher based assessments rather than sats. Takes up for too much of the children's time in year 2 and puts them through formalised testing that isn't needed. It's not really a "marker" (our school didn't give out results) but supposedly a test of the school that has no benefit to the kids. As always when exams come in and are high value the teaching and learning becomes all a preparation for the the test rather than a rounded education for the children.

I so hope it's true before my reception child gets there.

Thanks mrz. I've filled out what I could from the perspective of a parent (I'm a secondary teacher) and had to leave some questions blank.

What do you think of it all mrz?

It sound so a bit like they're branding you at 4 with the expected.progress to be made throughout primary. We're infant/junior so it sounds like they still want to test or assess in our case.

It certainly looks like primary school teachers ought to fill it out en masse.

For my reception child it looks like teacher assessment will remain at year 2 but in future that will be phased out?
