he hasn't missed a day .. he's never been late

how come they missed him out

if it was in isolation I could understand it .. but this is possibly the 3rd incident (the first was major .. the second minor .. this one kind of nothing)

am bothered

should I be?

In response to OP - yes it would bother me. It happened to DTD2. I queried it on the basis that either:

  1. They had accidently forgotten to get her a certificate. Not the end of the world but not right
  2. Their register is inaccurate, and they thought she had had time off - quite a worry really.

She got her certifcate a couple of days later

yeah, would really fuck me off, because it's NOT FAIR! If you're going to hand out certificates for inane things like 'Remembering to Breath' at least make sure everyone gets one.

Poor little chap, he sounds like a poppet.

ach, breathe even!

Wouldn't bother me in the least. Just another irritating example of some of the crazy ideas that are come up with. As someone else has said it's not anything that the child has any control over. If they are off sick they can't help it so why should they be penalised for it. I have explained this to my children so they are not upset if it doesn't work out how they expect. In fact, one of mine got a 100% attendance certificate and wondered how they had got it as they had a couple of days off sick.
I can't understand punctuality certificates at primary school either. It's not as if most of the children could get themselves to school on time. So are the certificates really for the parents?

I'm 40+5 PG today, and I have been deeply hormonally affected by the way your DS tried to rationalise his not getting a certificate.

That is adorable.

I love the earnest ones.

Blu - thank you, I agree completely.

First they ask you to keep your child at home for 24 hrs after a stomach bug, at one point I even had to pick up ds2 when he had fallen ill in the middle of the lunchtime break (no, I had not been sending him in sick for fear of reprisal, he'd been fine in the morning and suddenly started vomiting - I felt very sorry for the poor dinner ladies or whoever had to clear it up - it had been done by the time we came to pick him up).

But then if you keep your child at home and he's among the unlucky ones who pick up every bug going, you get a nice orange or red coloured letter telling you you are with one foot in the prison.

I think this system really alienates the majority of parents and doubt it reaches those parents it's really aimed at.

Our head and deputy don't seem to take this system too seriously anyway, they were just laughing when we complained and told us it was a LEA requirement and we should bin the letter. So what's the point then?? It's a waste of time and money and not exactly environmentally friendly

...and then we get asked if we knew of any sources to get A4 paper for the children as the school desperately needs more. Why not use the paper for the children rather than for those silly letters and certificates.

Blu,

My son's school don't count medical appointments where the parent has given a letter of notice the day before. Also my son's school allows them one day off inorder to get their certificate.

My son has been to audiology 3 times this term and he sees the community paediatrian as well.

I think its really unfair him not getting his certificate because he has had an orthorics/physio appointment. Its not as if he is missing the entire day.

In our school it only applies to lateness or unauthorised absence (within reason). This means children who are ill etc get the certificate. But it does not include holidays.
