achievement and goals

Don't know how many of you are going to agree with me on this but i am so angry with my ds's schools attitude on achieving.
Examples:
children were told before they took the eleven plus; only about five of you will pass this year; it doesn't matter if you don't pass; and after results from Head: i don't want to hear any talk about the 11 plus. if i do you will be in trouble!

School football; important games,best team is not put out,laughed at by other schools.

cross country names picked out of a hat,whether they wanted to or not,
Could go on and on.
Personally i don't think this is fair on the children that are good at sport and want to win for the school.
where has the fight and drive to do well gone? We wonder why kids can't be bothered to try! Am i going too far?

Ithink the children should be proud of anything they achieve.
I didn't say whether my son had passed

hmm I think I see where belle is coming from.

I don't think its a case of those that passed 'showing off' at the people that didn't - but surely by that age they should be allowed to have some sense of pride in their achievments.

And as for the sporting thing - that's just stupid!

I think all children have to learn at some point (and the younger the better IMO) that competition IS part of life whether we like it or not. I think the younger they learn to accept that sometimes you "win" and sometimes you "lose" the better.

I think a bit of competition is good for children; what this head seems to be doing seems a bit OTT.
