Hi There
Well, I'm 50 and do you think that's too old to go into a job as a Teaching Assistant, Early Years? I'm currently a School Meals Supervisor in a primary school. I have grownup children of my own and loads of experience working in schools, mainly secondary, as Receptionist and 6th Form Supervisor.
I am degree educated but in a different discipline, I love my job but need more of a challenge. Just would like opinions.

Another person here who's retrained as a teacher in my 40s. I also love it. Agree with the poster above - it's hard work but no harder than my previous job where I worked super long hours and hardly got any holidays or breaks.

And I earn more as a teacher too.

Go for it!

Same here - retrained in my 50s after a very high pressured career, did supply for a couple of years to get to see lots of schools from the inside without being committed to one, saw numerous schools I would never want to be FT in, and now happily employed FT is a great school and HT has been pleased to get someone in with considerable experience outside education and values that.
One advantage of previous career is ability to question the validity of tasks not just roll over and accept inefficiency and timewasting tasks 'because they have always been done that way'. I get paid a fraction of previous salary, but stimulating and interesting job - no way would I be thinking of 'retirement' for many years yet - amazes me that so many think of 'retirement' in their 50s..

You need to be able to kneel and sit on the floor and not show your knickers or worry about laddering your tights when you stand up. Kids are really short Grin
