Queen Ethelburga's College Alvl

l am considering sending my son to one of the schools for A levels in uk ,was considering Queen Ethelburga's College
i basically found a little bit about how people felt here about the school so if someone could further clarify this for me .
is the schools educational level worthy of consideration ? or is it just advertisment , i saw both the faculity and college being ranked as 11 and 10 respectivly on daily telegraph

I've never understood how The Telegraph filters raw scores for its tables. It has some startling omissions and I think you might be better off making your own comparisons of your candidate schools from the Department of Education website.

Are you particularly interested in schools in Yorkshire?

not particularly in yorkshire , i was just considering sending him to study in uk after inspecting some schools i found qe to be good but after searching for other reviews on the school i found ... well everything not deleted thats written here

As you've probably deduced, It is not possible to say anything about this school on here because their PR people trawl this site and set their lawyers on MN if anyone says anything critical.

yeah i found that out . and after looking at the department of education website its totally different from daily telegraph and i dont know whys that !!!
and if i have to go by that site even cardiff ,that i thought would have a high ranking isnt highly ranked

Some of the Telegraph tables use Total Points per Pupil, i.e. total points scored across all exams, which obviously favours the schools which push their pupils to take quantity rather than quality. The IB falls into this category as well as there are more subjects taken than A-level.
Other tables use the % getting A*/A, which is only really relevant to the top schools.
The measure I prefer is the Average Point Score per exam, as in this table:

Westminster Academy is a good example in that table.
Ranked 13 (because of a score of 1166 for Total Points per pupil) but an APS (exam) of 209 (about average for the country). They offer the IB.

Will let you draw your own conclusions.

Re QE, they do, to be fair, have pretty high APS (exam) scores.

The Telegraph tables in the summer are populated by schools submitting their results, and many schools I know are no longer submitting them (for lots of different reasons!).
I would take them with a pinch of salt.

Is your child British, and likely to be applying to British universities? Just wondering why you'd rather they did ALevel than whatever your local end of school qualification is.

The telegraph tables don't include IGCSE results either.
