Anybody else waiting for 11+ results - just looking for some company

DS1 took the 11+ test last weekend. He was upset coming out of the test as he thought he must not have done well just because some other kids finished before him.
He really wants to go to the Grammar School so I am having a tough time managing his emotions at the moment. We have just over a week to wait for the results but I don't know the parents of the other lad in DS's class who took the test well enough to chat about it.

Would love to hear from anyone else going through the same worries.

Very Well done Claricestar DS.

claricestar · 05/10/2016 21:44

thank you! fingers crossed for all the others still waiting!

helenwilson · 07/10/2016 22:51

Our results are not out until Monday 17th, we moved into the catchment area very late (June) and so I suspect dd will not get in, she has the capability but not the speed. The work she did over the summer is definitely helping her now in year six and the school my ds goes to is outstanding (he is OOC for the boys grammar school) so it's not too stressful but I would still like to know. We sat for Kendrick and did not share with the Slough grammars as we are too far away so it's Kendrick or nothing - I think our chances are slim !!

Dixiechickonhols · 08/10/2016 10:24

Letter came this morning she passed and hasa place. Good luck to those still waiting.

Mumski45 · 08/10/2016 10:31

Thats fantastic news dixiechick. Well done to you and your DD, i hope that she will be very happy at CRGS. Have a good friend who has had 2 girls go there and they have both done very well. Smile

Good luck Helen you just never know. DS was the same in that his accuracy was good but speed inconsistent. We practised a few strategies for speeding up in the weeks leading up to the test but in less than ideal conditions at home DS was still not completing the papers within the time. I think in an unfamiliar environment they can tend to be more focused

Congrats to all! We have to wait until next Fri and Mon 17. It's dragging!

Middleoftheroad · 08/10/2016 11:22

We took our test on 10th so long wait. Dixie - did you say your results were due on 12th but got there early? Be great if ours could. Well done btw Smile

Dixiechickonhols · 08/10/2016 11:56

Thank you mumski. We liked the school very much on the two open evenings we have visited.

Middleoftheroad It has honestly been the longest 2 weeks of my life. Admissions info said results by Wednesday 12th but I knew they said that last year and they definitely came earlier on the Saturday. Same this this year.

Middleoftheroad · 08/10/2016 15:31

Thanks Dixie what a relief. Might start stalking the postie from Mon!

angeldiver · 08/10/2016 16:24

Number 6 on the waiting list for us.
Last year first 5 on wait list made it in, so not out of the bounds of reality that we might get a place. We're OOC, 10 mikes as the crow flies. I am super proud of her, she must've scored pretty high, but gutted at the same time.
Now I have a CAF dilemma. All schools say if you don't put them first, you won't get in. Obviously I'd still like to put CRGS as first choice but would that jeopardise admission to the local school?
I will be calling the LEA on Monday.

Congratulations to all those who passed and got a place.

Mumski45 · 08/10/2016 16:27

Absolutely not. This is a commonly misunderstood point. The schools don't know where you have placed them. If you are eligible for first pref that's what you will get. If not but you are eligible for second then you will be offered the second one.

OP posts:
Mumski45 · 08/10/2016 16:30

At no 6 on the list you would be daft not to put it as first preference . You have nothing at all to lose by doing this unless your 2nd and 3rd choices are long shots and your 4th is more certain.

OP posts:
angeldiver · 08/10/2016 16:52

Why is it that every school I have looked round propagates this lie?
The common theme is, we fill up on first choice places, you will not get in if we're you're second or third choice.
So, if I put my catchment school as 2nd choice and don't get it, it will be catastrophic. Finding 3 schools, disregarding CRGS, is proving very hard indeed.
I looked round a school this week whose USP was that they have 70 support staff and a social worker. Which ever angle I look at it, I conclude they must have an extremely high number of troubled children.

Ollycat · 08/10/2016 17:01

the other thing to remember is that you will be offered the first school on your list which you are eligible for - do if that's the school you place in #1 all others are disregarded (even if you qualify for them) - you must put them in your genuine order of preference. If #1 can't offer you a place #2 becomes your first choice and so on until you have been allocated a space and then the process stops. If none of your schools on your CAF can offer you a place the LEA will place you in a school with spaces hence, if you are applying to selective schools or those ooc it's a good idea to put your last choice as a school you know you will get in to iyswim. But the most important thing is to put them in your genuine order of preference NOT the order you think you're most likely to be offered a space

angeldiver · 08/10/2016 17:43

If a school is over subscribed though, somebody is going to miss out.
Who misses out? 2nd choices, furthest away? Who knows?
I need to minimise the risk of ending up at a special measures school.

Mumski45 · 08/10/2016 18:40

If a school is oversubscribed it is not 2nd choices that miss out. The places will be allocated according to the admission criteria which depends on the type of school. Ie voluntary aided (Schools with a religious affiliation), community, selective etc. It will usually end up being a distance based criteria unless the school is selective in which case it will be score in the entrance exam.

Mumski45 · 08/10/2016 18:46

Angeldriver if you put CRGS 1st just in case the waiting list does move and put your catchment school 2nd then you have a very strong (almost 100%) chance of getting the catchment school (if you don't get CRGS). Only way you wouldn't would be if there were too many eligible children within catchment and it had to be decided on distance from the school and you live further away than everyone else, or if it is a school with religious requirements which you don't fulfill.

Thank you mumski

Dixiechickonhols · 08/10/2016 20:49

Well done to your dc they have done v well ooc. I agree with mumski. Look on the PDF on the Lancashire county council website re equal preference. Nothing to lose by putting crgs 1 and your catchment schools 2 and 3. You get the highest school you qualify for. If you don't put it you have no chance. Some may not put it on caf releasing places to wait list 1/3/17 and some may later turn down an allocated place e.g. If they move or go private.

Volatile · 14/10/2016 13:23

Ours turned up yesterday for preferred school - dc done good! But the results were a day earlier than they usually are and most people didn't get theirs so we don't know how lovely friend's child has done (out of catchment, high mark needed). Tenterhooks for them! Other results should arrive tomorrow for no.2 choice, but not really that bothered now, but know they matter for others. Last time for this wait before we start on GCSEs for oldest next year!

Mumski45 · 14/10/2016 14:59

Well done to your DC Volatile. Hope your friend and DC get the results they need.

We only have one choice here in Lancs. There are four grammars but tests are all on the same day so we can only apply for one.

Well done to your DC Volatile, glad they got their preferred school.

Waiting for the postman,

Dixiechickonhols · 15/10/2016 11:08

Fingers crossed for you kilmuir we were joking at breakfast today what a difference week makes as we watched postman delivering letters...don't know how I resisted chasing him down the street last week
