Any Laxton/Oundle parents about?

We're about to start the journey with the fee to accept our ds's place.

We've considered Kimbolton and the Harpur Trust but think Oundle is the school for us.

One thing we're finding it hard to work out is the extras. It seems that at Laxton the lunches, some music and drama is included whereas at the other schools I mentioned that's not the case.

Are there any current parents out there that could give me an idea please?

LJS is a wonderful school, ds went there after a couple of false starts, one in local village school and another in independent school. I remember looking around and thinking how happy the children were. They really encourage and celebrate individuality and imho the children leave there super confident. Ds went from LJS into Laxton house, as did most of his year. We lived half an hour from the school and it wasn't a problem as the free after school activities reduced the need to run around after school. We made the decision to move when he started in the seniors, because his social life was picking up and it is had to pin down a finishing time at the senior school. So much going on with vols, clubs and societies. In addition if your child is musical, and all children are encouraged in this at LJS, they are expected to play in concerts at Oundle which can start quite a long time after lessons finish. So you may not want your 11year old left to their own devices (they can have supper at a boarding house). That half hour each way can turn into double, which is a real pain. Luckily the town is a beautiful place to live, so no real hardship moving. Only downside is have to refill biscuit and cake tin for hungry friends on a very regular basis. Both schools are outstanding in terms of facilities, staffing and results.

Thanks Yoga. I think if we make it that far we'll just have to suck up to distance as due to work we don't really have the option to move. I was more worried about being half an hour away in the primary years for forming friendships and things rather than at senior. Really good to hear of some experiences there thank you

Hi,
My son is starting Reception at LJS in Sep 2017. I have managed to get all info ref extras on email. Please contact me and I could forward to you if you still require it. I also live 20min away and was worried about him making friends but I think school it worth it, even if I'll spend my evenings and weekends taxing him around.
