What do you look for in a school report?

Hi, I'm a Year One teacher currently writing reports. I was just wondering how you feel about them. Which aspects matter to you most and which least? Has a teacher ever written anything you loved or something you hated? How do you feel about grades, test results, information about subject learning and personal comments? Do you like a formal or informal, personal style? Any opinions or anecdotes would be interesting!

another quick thought for future reference - I'd like to know how my sons behave out of the classroom - a few words on what they are like in the playground, assembly and in the dinner hall.

I am always worried if I read stuff in a report that I am not already aware of ... I feel that a report should re-iterate how I feel that my child is doing as well as the teacher.

For example with DD this year she started really well and in the first parent tacher interview she got glowing reports and very little criticism.
Then it all went pear shaped and DDs standards really slipped ( I take the blame as I was not giving her the support that she needed as my Dad was rather ill ).
I realised this about 3 weeks ago and really tried with DD and her final exams results were really good.....
Her report came today and this is what the teacher wrote

"This is a good report, revealinga year of sound progress. As long as X stays focused and does not rest on her laurels, she will continue to do well. Her exam results are very pleasing and indicated what an able pupil she is"

Idon't know how you'd read this - but I was thrilled that the teacher accentuated the positive rather than dwelling on the glitch mid term

Thank you all for your help with this. It has helped me to focus on the purpose of a very long job. I am now hoping the parents I have written for are happy, a question you rarely get to ask!
