Incentivising learning

Hi all

I was wondering what other parents thought about giving your kids cash or rewards for learning or doing well in school tests. If so, how do you do it and does it work?

I think rewards should be for effort not results.

We rewarded DD1 during and at the end of GCSEs for working hard.

Then we said the results will be what they will be.
On results day we went out for a meal which we would have done whatever the grades.

Similarly DD2 got a treat at the end of y6 SATs for trying her best. She will get a treat this w/e for the results regardless of the numbers and surviving secondary transition days.

I really don't agree with the £XX for an A* etc brigade. Especially when families have siblings who might not be as academic as others.

I reward effort, but it is not predetermined as I want my DD to study because she wants to do it for herself.
She is year 7 I am really please with her end of year exam results and her overall effort this year so I am taking her to see the Railway Children.
