If so, share your success with me...who and how and what stopped people? Or did they never start?

I imagine the parking tickets are what stop people. Or an awareness that the double yellows are there to protect their own kids. Doesn't seem to be an issue, anyway.

southeastastra · 16/01/2007 16:42

the local residents won't have it and toot their horns continually if they see someone doing it

IntergalacticWalrus · 16/01/2007 16:42

I liove on a cul de sac which has a school at the end of it.

There are a load of Mummy Trucks parked in a very inconsiderate manner most mornings and afternoons, and it's impossible to get in and out at school opening/closing times. In fact I witnessed one woman giving an paramedic a load of abuse when he asked her to move her car because he couldn't get the ambulance through I certainly don;t want my children to attend that school as it seems to me a lot of the mother I have encountered there are up their own arses.

I'd like to know the answer to this one too....

Pablothelittleredfox · 16/01/2007 16:43

Hmmm, people don't park on the double yellow lines but they do park slightly on the pavement. Doesn't seem to be much of an issue that though. THe pavement is wide enough to still get by with a double buggy and it means if people are parked either side of the road you can still get traffic through.

People do, however, park in ridiculous places that don't have double yellows - they don't use their common sense at all so if there are no lines they park there anyway - like right on the corners or right opposite school so that it makes crossing the road with littlies difficult because you can't see past the cars.

They are improving at DD's school, but only after some idiot mother in a 4x4 with her children in the back, went right up on the pavement and nearly knocked down 2 children

ValnBen · 16/01/2007 16:44

We?re lucky in that the school is very close to a local car park (pay and display) and the council have allocated spaces near the rear gates that are free for 10 mins during drop off and pick up times.

PandaG · 16/01/2007 16:45

No , crap parkers here. I will watch this thread with interest.

I keep threatening to print 'Inconsiderate Parker' (would be something stronger but outside school not appropriate) on A4 sheets of sticker paper, and stick over driver's side of the windscreen. It really ticks me off when I am forced to walk in the road or cross in an inappropriate place due to laziness or stupidity on behalf of the parkers.

singersgirl · 16/01/2007 16:46

People park on the double red lines (just off a red route) by our school. But it doesn't inconvenience pedestrians - just traffic.

Tommy · 16/01/2007 16:49

Valnben - do you mind me asking which council that is? I'm a school governor and we're trying to deal with this problem at the moment.

Also, seriously thinking of "Please park considerately" stickers for offenders

We had an accident recently - not sure what it was though .

Since then we have had police presence and tickets being issued for bad/illegal parking. It is now much better. Also school sent a letter home explaining the fines etc you could get if you get one of these tickets!

IntergalacticWalrus · 16/01/2007 17:07

I often think as well with our local school that about half of the mothers could actually walk their children to school

Ladymuck · 16/01/2007 17:07

We now have parking wardens who come through on mopeds at school run time and ticket the offenders. Not daily but they usually do this for a week each term. It has had a huge impact on parking but alas not on driving (parents doing inappropriate u-turns on main road).

stleger · 16/01/2007 17:09

Watching with interest too!

KentuckyFreudChicken · 16/01/2007 17:11

This drives me mad as well. Why don't people just bloody walk to pick their children up.

misty · 16/01/2007 17:12

Until recently we had this problem, but the school contacted the police and there is now a strong almost daily presence of an officer (sometimes a special constable) who has been issuing tickets and standing outside the school morning and afternoon.

There is now no problem at all and it is much much safer for the children. Stick get the odd p*k though.

misty · 16/01/2007 17:12

sorry still

2shoes · 16/01/2007 17:14

when ds was at primary they would take the number of inconsiderate parkers and put it in the news letter.
The school down our road always has cars parked on the lines. really pisses me of(i might not have adc there but hate the thought of one being run over because of some lazy idiot)

ValnBen · 16/01/2007 17:23

Hi Tommy ? we come under the East Riding of Yorkshire council.

The car park with the allocated spaces is literally 20metres from the school back gates.

belgianmama · 16/01/2007 17:24

People don't park on yellow lines at my ds's school because there aren't any! They don't park on the pavement either, just because it's not necessary in the school
The school he attended last year did have that problem though and because the busses couldn't pass and the residents had problems getting on their drives they started to clamp down. 1st they had the police around unexpectedly and then they handed out a letter saying that someone would be photographing the cars that are illegally parked if it continued. That put a stop to it.

geogteach · 16/01/2007 17:25

Does my head in, our school is next door to a leisure centre where parents have permission to park at drop off and pick up. It takes 5 mins to walk from there but still plenty park on double yellows, in the coach bay or on the pavements. the real saddos park outside school at lunch time so there little darlings don't have to walk and then spend the afternoon in their cars

charliecat · 16/01/2007 17:38

Charliecat, I hope you included the apostrophe in 'there's' in your email or it kind of negates your message!!

Tommy · 17/01/2007 10:58

thanks valnben - is that a rural sort of place? Sorry to keep asking questions! Our school is in the city centre, on the junction of 2 main roads with double yellow lines all around it - parents are always parking directly outside the gates.

TeeCee · 17/01/2007 11:02

I do. I've never seen a parent badly parked outside my school. They park quite a way away, get the buggy out for the younger siblings and walk the rest of the way.

When I first started a lot of the reception mums parked bady so it was pointed out in the newsletters and a few of the parents at the govoners meeting suggested recording the number plate and car type and naming and shaming in the newsletter which was mentioned in the next newsletter. The headmistress and the caretaker often stand outside in the mornings to let parents know that selfish parking is unacceptable so noone ever seems to offend now.
