German language immersion course for teens

Ds wants to do German GCSE, but he is currently in the bottom German set. I am worried that he will not cover the material to pass. I am thinking of sending him to an intensive immersion German course for a couple of weeks in the summer. He would stay with a German host family, have mixture of German lessons and fun activities. Has anyone else sent their teens on a residential course and can you recommend a language school.

Stupid suggestion but have you checked your LA for summer clubs.
My friend has a business supplying teachers to schools who do all kinds of mfl clubs outside school and during holidays.

just thought there may be something you haven't heard of or is new, and maybe worth a call.
I know that all the teachers don't know about my friends business so maybe wouldn't know to recommend.

"Many high achieving countries have more mixed ablity teaching. I think that the British obcession with setting puts a ceiling on our children's learning."

Goethe offer some wonderful residential courses for teens.

Language in the morning and activities in the afternoon. The. Language moves at a good pace and the activities are good, with a real summer camp atmosphere. Inevitably most students speak English so socially there are no problems. Strongly recommended.

Have a look at Lingoo www.lingoo.com/en and Halsbury language courses www.halsburylanguages.co.uk/ too to see if there is something that would suit your son. I am also planning to send my son on a course next year when he's between year 9 and 10.

Are all the Goethe Institut courses full? They are expensive but look very good.
