DD learning about the Great Fire of London - Where to visit?

Hi, my dds went back to school yesterday and we got a sheet telling us what they would be learning this half term. DD1 (year2) is very excited as she is going to be learning about the Great Fire of London, History is her favourite subject and as we live close to London we would like to visit somewhere relating to it. I'm trying to decide between the Museum of London which is free and The London Dungeons with is quite expensive 4. Has anyone visited either of these and if so do you recommend them or does anyone have any other idea's.

Thanks

Musuem of London - just off london wall. Really good - small but lovely museum - nice cafe too.

Then walk to pudding lane and climb the monumnent.

The book - the story of London, is excellent too

The London Dungeons is terrifying - my 6 and 8yo were completely freaked out there.

Provided your DD is up to climbing 311 steps (probably more of a problem for the adults!) you should also visit
The Monument as it was built to commemorate the Great Fire of London.

museum of london is really lovely but it has loads of stuff, we couldnt manage it all in one go (childless too ) - i believe you can go twice on one ticket within a certain amount of time, worth checking first so you can plan your visit. london dungeon is horror-based tourist attraction with little historical interest

Thanks I think we might do the Museum and the Monument. I think I'll give the dungeons a miss as dd2 is only 4, also for the 4 of is it will cost about £45 which seems a lot.

Soapbox - agree about the Story of London, my sister bought it for dd1 for xmas and it was one of her favourite presents, she has taken it to school today to show her teacher.

Agree, Museum of London is fab. I know it very well for work-related reasons.
There should be plenty of time if you just go to the relevant galleries, plus the Medieval one is not strictly relevant but has been recently redone and is great, with some interactive things for children as well.
Have a look at the website (museumoflondon.org.uk) as they often have special events (eg storytellers or actors in the galleries) aimed at children.
It used to have a ticket system but is free these days.

Re: Dungeons. Indeed. I, myelf, went at 11 yrs old and left in tears. Tried again when 13 and still couldn't cope. Refused to take DD (10). Her dad took her and she was fine!

Maybe I'm a wuss?

London Fire Brigade have a museum going from Great Fire onwards. You need to book, but mgiht be worth a look. LFB Website

we did a family hike up the monument as this marks the spot where the great fire began on pudding lane. Go on a clear day and the view over london is great. You also get a certificate to say you've climbed the 311 steps!

Ditto summer.

Take an A-Z and look around the area affected.

We did this when DD3 was in y2.

Monument and museum are both fab!
