Which secondary school did you go to?

I went to Surbition High, kingston upon Thames (Private girls school). I left in 1993 after A-levels. When I was at Surbiton High it was a bit of an academic hot house. I enjoyed the academic challenge but I was bullied really badly. I have no idea what it is like now.

My husband went to Cavendish School in Hemel Hempstead. (A state comprehensive) Twenty years ago it was the best school in the area, but now it has major problems with discipline.

I went to Hatch End High (comp) - have no idea what it is like now -as I have no reason to go to that area - I did really well there - i think if u want to work hard , you'll get good results wherever u go .

Hi Frances - I used to live in Hemel and visited Cavendish to take assemblies and RE/PSE classes. Last I heard there was a new "superhead" drafted in to improve things, but that was a couple of years ago now. It was pretty dire as I remember it.

I went to an independent co-ed school in the west end of Glasgow (The High School of Glasgow) and absolutely loved it, was really happy there and I'm still in touch with half a dozen or so school friends 12 years on.

I therefore got quite depressed on seeing all the Hemel schools in comparison. Really really hope they're not typical of UK state schools? Ds and dd would have gone to Astley Cooper (which I think is is one of the worst in the county) if we had stayed in Hemel which I would have found crushingly depressing, as would they I suspect .

I went to La Sagesse Convent High School (ooh lala!) in Newcastle upon Tyne. My year was the last 11-plus year in that area (I started in '76). It was knee-length navy kilts, standing up when a teacher entered the room, no leaving the grounds during school hours until sixth form ... I didn't particularly enjoy it at the time but at least I left with some semblance of respect for authority (harrumphs & huffs & puffs )

Gingeme · 01/01/2007 21:48

A good way to be outed if that bothers anyone who gives a date, school and may be a year or any identifying details and is also on friendsreunited.

choosyfloosy · 02/01/2007 10:29

Tonbridge Grammar School for Girls.

A few years ago it was a real hothouse and top of the leagues type place but I went when it was still relatively gentle. Lovely teachers though all very experienced so also a bit jaded sometimes. Lots of cuts so there were chunks of the school roped off because too dangerous - the head spent money on books not buildings. I was pretty happy there. Fantastic music tuition although I didn't really realise it at the time.

HogmanayHangover · 02/01/2007 10:35

I went to Paisley Grammar School.

We lived so close that I could leave the house at 8.50am and still be there before the bell rang at 8.55am

zippitippitoes · 02/01/2007 10:37

surely even if you gave a year and school then you could be anyone on friends reunited..or in fact you may not be on it at all?
some people are of course "outed" anyway!

Kirkby C of E (primary - quite nice actually)
Ruffwood Comprehensive (left after two years' horrible bullying)
Brookfield Community School (not much better than Ruffwood tbh but at least I didn't get physically hurt!)
Deyes High School sixth form (absolutely lovely school; had a quadrant in the centre with peacocks! Would recommend it to anyone.)

Dh always bangs on about how he went to a grammar school and how brilliant that makes him. (There weren't any in our area so who knows!!). I still got better grades than him though!!

IdrisTheRedNosedDragon · 02/01/2007 13:01

I also went to Deyes High School .

IdrisTheRedNosedDragon · 02/01/2007 13:02
