Obtaining a place at a South London prep school?

I'm expecting my first child, apologies this is my first post and I have no idea about all the acronyms I'm meant to use... My other half, who was privately educated, wants to send our child to private school from the start. Our Obgyn jokingly mentioned that if we want to do this we need to be on waiting list from his/her birth. Is this true!? Can anyone help educate me about the processes of getting our child into a good co-ed prep school? Any resources about the best schools would also be a great help. Thanks!

MumoftheMoos - it may be worth a word with the DPL registrar. A few years back now but we were in a similar position and they agreed to extend the deadline for us to pay the deposit until after we'd heard back from school we were waiting for.

That said it is a fantastic school and your DS will love it.

TiP - why would anyone pay more than one acceptance fee? How odd. Everyone I know chooses one pre-prep or prep school and offers for schools are rarely made years in advance (except 11+ pre-test for senior schools). Also, the first terms fee is not like a security deposit for a rental - it really is for the first term, thus not a loss. I agree that private schools are expensive in London, but they certainly are not as you are portraying them to be.
