Should a governor have to stand down if they choose to send one of their children to a different school?

The county I live in is moving from 3 tier (middle schools) to 2 tier. Children currently in Y4 can choose to stay on at their primary school for Yrs 5 & 6 or they can opt to go to a middle school (Academy).

One of our governors is choosing to send their DC to a middle school rather than keep them at the primary school of which we are governors. The chair thinks said governor should resign: I disagree.

I would be interested to hear what other governors/teachers/parents think.

Thank you.

As a former Clerk to governors would say that the chair is incorrect here - parent governors don't have to resign when their child leaves the school (although in practice many do so). They can stay on as parent governor until they complete their term of office. If you look this up in the Governors guide / articles of governance that states this clearly.
IMO this governor prefers the middle school system so I don't see this as a conflict of interest.

Some governors are just funny about stuff like that. I went for a teaching job about 7yrs ago and didn't get it. It wasn't right for me anyway but the interview was strange with the HT, DHT and 4 members of the GB. Anyway, about 3yrs later I became a friendly with someone who taught there at the time who told me the HT had mentioned that I was discounted after revealing at interview that my ds1&2 were at independent school. Apparently one of the governors said they would absolutely not support the appointment of a state school teacher who didn't use the state system themselves. Doesn't matter my reasons or my references. Its ridiculous but some governors are over zealous with these things. Its a shame your governor felt the need to stand down.
