Teachers Have Never Had it so Good

said Nick Gibbs MP - Schools Minister

“The opportunities are greater now than they ever have been. Teachers now have the opportunity and ability to set up their own schools. Teachers can go into practice on their own or with other teachers and set up a school in the state sector that the state will pay for.”

“…This government is on the side of teachers, giving them the freedom to teach as they see best. And we will return teaching to be the pre-eminent profession. More top graduates are coming into teaching and I believe the prestige of the teaching profession is increasing,”

Whilst Nicky Morgan MP, Minister of State for Education has decided to cap teachers pay rise at 1%. Do you know any teachers? Do they agree with Nick Gibbs MP? What do they think of their payrise being capped at 1%?

Think Nick Gibb needs to be told a few home truths, but I bet he's not on Mumsnet!

Mumsnet is not the only place people express opinions. If you think no one is talking about this, get over to Twitter.

One of Nicky Morgan's ideas for schools struggling with budgets is for all teachers to go down one pay grade!
My husband is head of dept in a big secondary school. His budget for the year? 500 quid. Including photocopying- only his GCSE students get text books. His budget will be the same next year when all GCSE and A'levels change curriculum (in the same year- another genius idea!) so he will need to find new resources. 500 quid for 1600 students. The science dept has been told: no more practicals.

Thing is, when teachers make noise, they're written off as whingers.

And this is the problem. You can bet your bottom dollar that if all the teachers went on strike tomorrow over this there would be twice as many threads of people complaining about childcare and bloody whinging teachers than there would be people agreeing.

Comfortseeker- you sound eminently intelligent to me. Yes, schools and local authorities should work hard to involve parents and parents need to let them know that they want to be involved.

I think the politicians have long forgotten that public services belong the the general public. Why do the gov think they have the right to sell them?Angry
