Hello - we have registered DS for this nursery and would like to hear about people's experience? I did some research in goggle it seems that it's a very traditional nursery (which we don't mind)? I don't know if there is any different when it comes to boys? Are children happy?
Obviously we wouldn't go for the 4+ (as it's a girls prep school!), would they divide pupils in groups so they teach differently?

they will do the same activities, as the same activities that are useful for assessments are relevant in terms of getting the kids ready for school (fine motor skills, phonics, counting, following instructions, listening to stories, arts & crafts, learning to share and to talk in front of a group and so forth). The boys will move on to Wetherby / Eaton House and the like, so need to be up to speed and prepared for school as well, even if they don't do assessments.

Hi, I'm thinking about registering our daughter for this nursery too and have just come across this thread. Do you know whether there are any afterschool care options for this nursery? I'm working full time so 3.30pm finish is rather too early.
Also is this true that the children have to go home from 11.30 to 12.30? Thanks.

They don't seem to have after school care for nursery, they finish at 3:30pm. Morning finishes at 11:30am.

Thanks for the info sanam.

By the way how would you compare Redcliffe and Falkner House? (Nursery only) Any one got experience of the schools?

Eva - normally there are not that many boys in the nursery. So they all do the same things. It is a traditional nursery - in a sense that it is strict and focuses heavily on manners and discipline.
They don't really do "teaching", if by teaching you mean school-like sessions. As Sanam said - they do all regular pre-school activities - arts&crafts, story telling, pre-reading activities.

One last thing about that nursery - many of the girls parents will be competitive and working very hard to impress the Nursery HM, and through her - Mrs G, that their little ones are perfect for the school.

Redcliffe is a more "normal" nursery, less formal, and a lot more nurturing/relaxed.

Does your son have a confirmed place at a school, or would he need to pass an assessment?

Thanks MMmonKK, I haven't had a chance to visit Falkner House yet but went to Redcliffe, so can't really get a feeling of the school..Understood parents of FH nursery girls trying to impress the head - interesting to know!

He has a space already so we are only looking for something which will prepare him well. For literacy, does anyone know how FH works (sound only in nursery or jolly phonics straight on?)?

I understood all these depends on development of individual child, but want to know what they do to understand better.

FH is a nursery - they are not doing Jolly Phonics as structured sessions with children.

They would do sounds - like there could be a "sound of the week", where sounds would be pointed out. But not much more than that.

If you want a nursery that does more - check out the one attached to Eaton House the Vale school. It is just up the Gloucester rd.

It is more boy-heavy and they do teach kids more as many of the boys tend to move on to their school and only have a couple of years to prepare for 7/8+. So they don't waste time...

It's good to know, thanks again. We are on wait list Eaton House the Manor nursery, not the Vale, I supposed they are the same then..? I actually didn't realise EH the Vale also have nursery attached to it! (didn't read their web site properly....! )
It sounds like EH is something we are after, but we will go visit to get a feeling. Many thanks for your info!
