I dont know much about this area. any recommendations? (DS is 2)
and would you say kingston is cultured and good place to bring up mixed race kids? (oriental + white)

Hi HJ. There is a very large Korean population in New Malden, just next door, so lots of close Asian supermarkets and activities.

Kingston has some very posh parts and some poorer parts. Do you know whereabouts you are moving to yet?

The Tiffin schools are very good, but I don't think they take at primary. Park Hill prep is good. I went to Kingston Grammar School, which is also good (not if you're not sporty though ), but also a senior school.

There will be some other mumsnetters around soon who will be able to help with the primary stuff.

Hi arfishymeau

Could you tell me where are posh parts and poorer parts in kingston?
We have viewed a couple of properties so far near Fern Hill Primary and St Luke's CofE Primary (north of central kingston).
looked up ofsted reports but last one was made 2-3 years ago.
are they any good?
It will be a lot more helpful to hear from mums than reports I think

I am new to mumsnet and found this website incredibly helpful!!!
seems many controversial issues regarding private vs state schools here.
I would be happy to send my kid to state school as long as it has a good reputation.

I believe Fern Hill has an excellent reputation and was the top primary school in the Kingston borough last year.

Well, I think the posher parts are around Kingston Hill/Richmond Park. There are some slightly poorer parts near the Coombe Estate on the road from Kingston to New Malden. You will find big million pound houses less than a mile from council houses in some parts.

Fern Hill is brilliant - know lots of kids who go there. Check you're in the catchment area - being 'near' it may not help.

Coombe Hill near New Malden used to be great but haven't lived there for a while. I aslo had a swimming pool! Houses ridiculousy expensive round there though. Also Latchmere had good rep too.
