I have an interview for a teaching assistant at a junior school tommorow morning.
Things I will be expected to do are support children both in class and withdrawal with particular emphasis on numeracy and literacy.
Use an interactive whiteboard.Keep records of pupils progess. Liase with class teachers regarding planning and arrange a proggramme of parental participation in childrens learning.
Does anyone know what sort of things I am likely to get asked and also can anyone give me any advice on what I should say to make me the best candidate for the post. Thanks

Hi,
I teach in a junior school and think a lot goes on your relationship with the children. You may be asked about how you would encourage a poor reader, or someone who is struggling during the lesson. If they ask you for any questions ask about the behaviour policy and your role in this. If they ask you about behaviour and how you would deal with an issue, say you would refer to the behaviour policy and take the lead from school poicy. They may ask about how you would encourage parents into the school, if thats part of your role, and how you would deal with unco-operative parents. Will post more if i can think of anything else

Good Luck!!

Ds TA just went for an interview at our school for the hours she doesn't work with him. She got asked who the most important person in the classroom is. I'm only mentioning this as she was feeling nervous and said 'teacher' when she should have said the child. It was between her and one other person and the head said the decision went against her on the basis of this one question

That is unfair.

There are several children in the classroom. And if the question was who is the most important person then it could be any of them.

A TA is employed to work with the class not a particular child. There are times that an SEN child works with the teacher and the then the SEN child's TA might work with the other children. I suspect the school did not want to pay national insurance and if you have two people below the national insurance freshold then its cheaper than paying one person's national insurance.

How did it go?

The interview went well, but unfortunetkly I didn't get the job. I was in the last two but in the endthe other person got it. Oh well I have still got my supply work in Barry and this morning I was told they will need me until Christmas.
Thanks for all your advice.

Hi, has anyone had to do an "intray exercise" as part of a Teaching Assistant interview?
