Have you not had enough discussion on this the other day in your mammoth thread with identical OP?

GnomeDePlume · 17/07/2015 16:56

sassytheFIRST, I am enjoying the discussion, I hadnt realised that posting was rationed

In our area the craze for secondary schools is to replace black skirts with tartan kilt style in the most outlandish colours imaginable, so the OPs proposal is fine in comparison.
However I have to disagree on the suitability of plimsolls at school. From a medical point of view they are dreadful for still growing feet, and from a health and safety point of view I am amazed that any school allows them in chemistry labs or tech rooms, equivalent working environments wouldn't.

Mumjane1971 · 18/07/2015 07:25

The plimsolls are fine ds always wears them and so do his friends and loads of others at the school one of the other schools in my area recommends them aswell not just ds school

Just because lots of DC wear them, it does not make them suitable for everday wear. We have hundreds of children coming through our department every year with foot, knee and back problems. The first advice we give their parents is to bin their plimsolls and buy proper supportive shoes with thicker cushioning soles.
Schools that recommend them are doing so to protect their floors.Sad

Plimsolls are suitable for occasional use only. DD has flat feet and needs to wear insoles all the time. Plimsolls aren't suitable for these insoles and are impractical for wet or snowy weather. DD's podiatrist would be horrified if that was all she was allowed to wear in school.

Schools that advocate wearing plimsolls all day are creating all sorts of problems for the children for when they grow older..

The school aren't bothord about there floors they want to provide a different option to students and cheap option to schools shoes for parents

I expect when he is older and has sore feet he will thank you for it.
Given that he is 12 I'm surprised that the school allow it. DD's school uniform rules state that the students have to wear proper shoes. They don't have to be leather, but they have to be black and not plimsolls/trainers/boots.

How does he manage in winter?

Bunbaker · 21/07/2015 09:01

You can buy cheap proper shoes in Primark or Shoezone BTW.

titchy · 21/07/2015 09:13

Seriously ANOTHER thread about shoes?!!!! It's a lovely day - can I suggest you go and play outside instead of posting about how marvellous black pumps are. If you're a grown up - get a life!

Bunbaker · 21/07/2015 09:14

It isn't lovely where I am.
