Anyone know how I take a GCSE Maths via homestudy. IGCSE preferably.

It's always annoyed me that I got a C grade Maths GCSE - the year after GCSE's were introduced. My crappy school would only put Set 1 in for the Higher exam, and because I was in set 2, I had to take the intermediate paper and the highest grade I could achieve was a C.

Is it possible to study for an IGCSE online? I would prefer the IGCSE to miss out the coursework element.

Have you contacted local schools to check out who offers IGCSE? You could probably study using text books but would need to sit the exam at a centre. I don't think you can do it online - contact the eaxam board to find out.

I believe I could take the exam at an Independent School as an external candidtae. I don't yet know what they charge.

You can definitely sit at an Independent - the charge often varies from school to school. Are you in Wales?

No ~ SE England

Was guessing from the name! When do you want to sit it? Think it is often done in one year but depends how much time you can give to it.

Realistically I shouldn't start it until the next academic year or a little before that, aiming to take the exam the summer of 2008.

I work for one of the awarding bodies (hence the name!). The distance learning colleges we currently recognise are either the national extension college or oxford open learning, or you can enter yourself as a 'private candidate', see the awarding bodies websites for more info - they are AQA, Edexcel or OCR.
