with dh being very ill still and bad immune system, and dd2 nursery beign a hotbed of illnesses atm, i asked if it was possible to send a letter out highlighting that there is a parent with a lowered immune system, and to take extra caution atm. acting head wasnt very sympathetic tbh, and actually suggested i should consider taking my kids out of school and nursery if i am worried about illnesses.

all i want is extra caution to be taken, not to send every child with a slight snuffle home.

was i wrong to suggest it?

No, I don't think the acting head is being reasonable or appreciates the gravity of the situation.

When I was at school there was a boy in my year with leukemia and parents were often reminded of this, and asked to keep their children home if infection was suspected.

No. I think you are being perfectly reasonable we had a letter sent out because a little boy in dd's nursery class has leukemia it just asked parents to inform the school if anyone got measles, chicken pox etc something on the same lines because of Peter's illness is perfectly acceptable.

no not wrong at all, not very sympathetic of the head

Like other posters we have had letters home saying that could we be extra carefully about sending children into school because of various people having low immune systems for a variety of reasons.

It has never been an issue.

There is a child at DD's school with low immune system. We had a letter about it and asking us to be careful, and to report any illnesses such a schicken pox immediately, right at the start of term.

we had a similar letter sent home when dd2 was in private nursery. so thought her state nursey migt consider this. she even said about sending a letter home , but not mentioning that there was a parent with low immune system.

misdee I'm sorry that your DH is ill. I think the school may have looked differently if it was your DD who had the low immune system. Schools all have a policy of suggestion children staying home if they are ill. Children aren't meant to go to school if they've had Diarrohea or vomiting within the last 24 hours. Maybe you could ask the school to let you know if there are illnesses going around.
