Queen Ethelburga's college/Chapter House Prep?

(Asking for a friend.)

Does anyone have any experience with the school? My friend's little girl (8) is desperate to go to this school. I believe she'd be a day student or weekly boarder.

Anything good or bad I can pass on?

Thank you!

Actually they have started to advertise on prime time TV in HK. Otherwise I know nothing about them. The gym looks nice though.

mummytime · 16/06/2015 07:49

When I was looking at schools for my DC - I was very surprised having visited a couple of private schools with amazing Gyms/sport Halls, to discover one of my local Comps had one just as good (they'd done a deal to get it, with a local sports club).

If you are horsey I'd really look at the schools which compete in inter school Gymkhanas, there are quite a few.

I never really read much of the website. I got threatened for posting that they were thin skinned about fair comment.
They could not see the irony of their actions Wink

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/06/2015 08:44

They did struggle with the irony of that didn't they. It's a shame, because some of the best buts of the previous thread were withdrawn.

They really don't seem to be able to understsnd the concept that the way they act towards criticism is putting parents off because they're making themselves look like they have something to hide.

Rafa
I have a downloaded copy of the whole thread before a single post was deleted : I regarded it as essential if ever they did put me in court.
Some day I might stash it in a random corner of the interweb.

TBH much of what was removed is innocuous - which just makes the draconian approach all the more surreal.

SunnyBaudelaire · 16/06/2015 16:24

Another 'horsey' school is Stonar.
My dd went was staying at a big equestrian centre down in the West Country and could not work out why so many girls had 'Stoner' (as she read it) on their hoodies.
It looks lovley - pricey though.
Still Queen Burger's does look a bit too cheap and nasty tbh.

Pootles2010 · 16/06/2015 16:32

A girl I used to work with went there. She was a right snobby twat.

Lilymaid · 16/06/2015 16:41

Looked through the main school prospectus - the only horses were metal sculptures in a pond. The exercise areas still show up on the map but no real mention of horse riding as a sports activity or the old "bring your horse" stuff.

ClashCityRocker · 16/06/2015 16:46

We get the prospectuses through all the time, which is slightly odd as I don't have any children.

I think when they leave the head gives them a letter saying 'if you get into bother, don't worry, call our lawyers and we'll sort it.' or something of that ilk?

WanderWomble · 19/06/2015 22:02

I might email them and ask about the horses.

Queen Mary's Baldersby, nearish to thirsk

Queen Margaret's Escrick

bobthebuddha · 19/06/2015 23:55

My sister went there a long time ago. She did not have a horse. She didn't like QE much. They seem to spend a lot of money on digital and offline advertising here there and everywhere; make of that what you will. Will I get a lawyer's letter now?

oldsweat · 04/07/2015 10:09

It's all fur coat and no knickers. It's a school that knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. I speak from bitter personal experience as a parent. Granted it was a few years ago but if anything it has deteriorated in the intervening period.

Kentallen2015 · 26/10/2015 05:03

We live overseas and are returning to York - thinking of sending the boys there (11 and 13). I would really appreciate some honest info - good or bad - regarding this school, and St. Peters, and Bootham, if at all possible. Many thanks in advance.

mummytime · 27/10/2015 14:21

Kentallen2015 I would suggest you use the advanced search feature to find previous threads.

Both of the other schools look far more "suitable". There is also Pocklington in a similar area.

Why was a post consisting only of a link to a single article, relevant to the thread, in a reputable newspaper, deleted? Do I get deleted if I say that people interested in this thread should search The Guardian for the school's name?

btdtgtts · 14/11/2015 12:23

oh, sorry, not The Guardian, the BBC its venerable self.

meditrina · 14/11/2015 12:28

There is a BBC article www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-34792452 about the arrest of the former chair of governor's for a historic sex offence involving a child.

A if the BBC has quoted accurately, a school spokesperson has confirmed that the person has stood down whilst enquiries are carried out. The person has denied allegations against him.

There usually isn't any problem with linking the BBC, nor in continuing to talk about - school on a thread about that school and which was active until only a fortnight ago. And of course MNHQ did not delete posts about allegations of historic sexual offences on threads about other schools (a couple of London ones spring to mind as discussed on MN) and I hope there will not be special treatment for any school.

NuttynatE · 19/11/2015 20:48

The ISI report which underpins the allegations should be read before any person considers this school, the ISI reports are a good start for this, when this report refers to the Provest that is the same person the allegations on the BBC refer to.

I really hope this doesn't break Mumsnet rules / etiquette, but another poster wrote this on another thread about QE. Very relevant since he is suspected of voyeurism! See screen shot before it gets deleted!

Serious bullying issues too. Someone I know has just removed children from there due to physical assault on a child. Can't say much more but very serious and not taken seriously enough by the school.
