LIZS thank you for answering.

Sorry - posted too soon - and for explaining.

The grading system at my DS's next school is A 70% or above, B 63 - 69%, C 55 - 62%, D 40 - 54%. They also award an A* to exceptional performance in a particular subject.

Pepperpot69 · 16/06/2015 12:43

LIZS can you tell me (as you seem to know) when a future school suggests a 60% pass mark for example is that in every subject or as I may have interpreted it, across the board. So if DC is particularly strong on Science but weaker on languages would that work or are they actually looking for 60% in all main subjects?

Many thanks, all really helpful!!

LIZS · 16/06/2015 15:29

I've always thought it was overall do some degree of tolerance on less core subjects.

KingscoteStaff · 16/06/2015 15:51

SPS grading is A = top 40% we are admitting, A- = next 40% that we are admitting, B = bottom 20% that we are admitting, C = fail

SPS want 70% in all subjects.

Westminster (I think) want 70% average, so the DSs can have quite 'spiky' profiles. DS's friend who is heading for Westminster knew that he would get near to 100% in Maths, which would cancel out a possible low mark in French.

It's interesting how different all the grade boundaries are. DS needed an average of 70 and got 80 with mainly As and then Bs with one C Sad. I've no idea how the boundaries worked for each grade (except they didn't use A*) but I'm glad he didn't need 70 in each. The boy from their school going to Hampton was delighted with his grades - I know why now, seeing the boundaries above!
