We visited this school recently as a 'possible' for our 3 year old. We really liked it but don't know anyone who has a child that goes here. Has anyone got any info about it? Many thanks.

Don't have any direct experience but it is generally very well regarded. The senior school is a very popular choice from DS's primary school. We even had one girl turn down KEHS in favour of Eggy.

Are you ready for 15 years of school fees? Gulp!

I was there 20 years ago. lol! So can't help you much now but know that it is doing well in the tables and also still has excellent facilities. Good luck! I turned out into a nice girl (me thinks) and we recently just had a reunion!

Thank you for your responses so far. If the school fees weren't an issue we'd have signed up there and then! Looking at it cynically we could hope that she passes the 11+ and the fees will stop at that point but then if she likes it that much we'd be mean to put her in another senior school

We've got access to a very good state primary but without all the extra 'bits'; small classes, loads of extra curricular clubs and before and after school care so we are in a wee bit of a dilemma.

The girls we met all seemed genuinely enthusiastic and happy. I don't think that's something that can be 'put on'?

So, rather than looking at through-schools, are you looking at Junior schools that stop at Y6 i.e. have an incentive to get them into the Grammars? DS's co-ed Junior round the corner from Eggy is / was brill (wearers of cobalt coloured outer garments )

jollymum · 10/11/2006 18:26

I went there...I've heard it's now brilliant and better than KES. We were called the Bogeys and I played hockey against Toyah Wilcox, the SH'T(that's what her school was called)! In my day it was tough and boy, were you proud to be a girl. No-one dared say they wanted to be a housewife/mum, OMG you had to be a rocket scientist at least. Would love to go back to a reuinion but have lost my EHS accent and am still scared of the old Headmistress, Miss Belton. FFS I'm 46 and Ive got wobbly legs!

Wychbold - We did visit the 'other school' but made the mistake of taking the little person with us - I don't think we got a real feel for the place as we spent most of the time telling our dd off for misbehaving!

We've always presumed we would go private for secondary but are now in a quandary as to whether to approach it the other way round - we shouldn't have gone and looked at EHS prep, I guess!

I know EHS lose a proportion of girls at 11 so I imagine it wouldn't be as painful a departure for dd if half of year 6 leave as well. I suppose the tricky issue is if dd doesn't get a grammar place do you then put her back into a comprehensive? The state secondary schools round our way are not great.

Jellymum - A sign of a good school is being scared of the headteacher

Well Miss Belton was my headmistress too and she was force to be reckoned with. Not sure what the current one is like. Believe she's a new one as heard through the Old Girls News or should I say Laurel Leaves. Jollymum when did you leave?
