Elections affecting GCSE grading

Will the elections have any affect on the GCSE point system grading being phased in? I don't know enough about this area but it's a topic of discussion in my circle of friends. Hoping someone on Mumsnet could provide a more qualified answer! Thanks in advance.

As far as I remember Labour have said that if they get into power they will stick with current changes to the exam system but not introduce more for a few years. Of course that might change in practice.

My impression is that the changes are already in motion, although I could be wrong.

My eldest child is in the last year group who will be given letter grades in every subject. My second child is in the first year group who will be getting number grades in every subject under the current plans.

As a parent, I find the constant changes confusing and unhelpful. Goodness knows how the poor teachers must feel.

OK, many thanks Irene.

Labour said they will stick with the GCSE changes, but stop the decoupling of AS and A-levels.

Politics are constantly affecting the exam gradings. DD1 did Wjec board for English/Lit a couple of years ago when ofsted/government (not sure who officially) intervened and put pressure on to raise the grade boundaries. There ended up being different grade boundaries for England and Wales - so if you lived in Wales you could get a higher grade than someone who lived in England after having obtained the same raw mark.
