Hi
I posted recently about opinions on cheltenham ladies college. Well after looking at past threads and discussing with dd we have decided to go for it. Dd will enter next September to try and win a scholarship we will also need a busary too.
My questions today are
When and how should I prepare dd for scholarship exam she will be sitting the exam for entry into 6th form
Do they do the scholarship In maths and English?
I hope you can help

At dc school they take papers in subjects they intend to continue. If you are overseas there may also be a minimum requirement for maths and English. What does the website say ?

No we are in the uk,North Yorkshire it says '
For Sixth Form, girls undertake a two-day programme of written exams, subject-specific interviews, a group task and individual interview.'

With regard to specifics about scholarships and requirements you need to talk to the individual school. I think I've head on the grapevine that Cheltenham Ladies offers bursaries unattached to scholarships it might be worth talking to their bursar.

I've emailed the school and they have said they have funds available and I've spoken to the admissions officer I guess it's best maybe to ask to talk to the busar around September time when you start looking at 6th forms. I just heard on the grapevine you should start preparing for scholarship exam around now

Assuming you DD is planning to take subjects that's she's already doing at GCSE then I suspect that as long a she demonstrate a genuine interest and ability in the subject I would have thought would be enough although there are various "Olympiad" things in the sciences for that age group and I suppose doing well in these things would be useful, maybe entering writing competitions if she's planning on studying any kind of writing subject might look good. Talk to the school I've always found admissions depts very helpful. If she was planning on taking say history of art which according the their website is not offered at GCSE then I think she would have to do more extra work to demonstrate a real interest.

She's done history of art as level actually. DD wants to be a lawyer and eventually go into politics and become an Mp. She wants to do history, english lit, government and politics, french or maths. She's undecided on her 4th. She can't enter in the Olympiad as her new only offers to sixth formers she did enter at her old school. She reads a lot and enter inter house writing and poetry competition. She attends a club where they have challenges and different speakers come in to talk about different subjects. She has a genuine interest for politics as I found out last night when she was watching the live debate and discussing with me this morning about the flaws of each mp.

Mommy the exams are subject specific, they are looking for candidates with Oxbridge-type potential.
My advice would be first that she gets the GCSE and other exam work that she has / will do absolutely secure, secondly that she continues to follow her own interests in the subjects to explore and read as much as possible.

She needs to be or practise being articulate in communicating and discussing her knowledge and have her own ideas. The enthusiasm and motivation has to come from her at this level. If she wants to do French then as much oral practice as possible so she will be confident talking French.
I hear CLC is excellent for history of art.

Thankyou summer she is very enthusiastic and that is why she wanted to prepare now. Do you have any clue as to what exams she would have to take?
Currently she's doing
Igcse English Lang and lit
Igcse science
Igcse french
History
R.S
Igcse geography
Igcse maths

Mommy from secondhand information she would take an exam for each of her sixth form subject options (4 if taking A levels, 6 if taking IB). She can also do a sort of pre-interview anytime now. That would be a good idea combined with a visit. I imagine before she sets her heart on this you need to be given a rough idea of the bursary amount they would offer in your situation.

Thankyou summer
I plan to contact admissions about May time when she's done her end of year mocks and then she'll be able to leave school for any interviews
