Teachers strike

We have received notice that ds2's primary school will close tomorrow as NUT and ALT have called for strike action. Ds1's secondary is not affected, I have searched the Internet as I don't seem to remember hearing anything in news. Would I be within reason to ask head or another teacher at school for more proof. Obviously if it makes the news tomorrow i won't need to... Anyone else's schools in strike tomorrow? we are in a London borough if that makes any difference

I have 2 children in school ( different schools ) and I in a London Borough. I've not heard of an impending strike

The most likely explanation is that it's a strike in just their school, normally on an issue linked to workload / changing conditions of service in that school. I can't imagine a HT shutting a school due to strike action if there wasn't a strike - it wouldn't be worth their job.

It's probably just your school. Check the local papers online, they might have picked it up.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like it just our school, it's got issues at the moment and decided to become academy - letter came out last week to confirm it. Didn't realise strikes would be balloted, counted and decided so quickly! Surely they should have written the reason in the letter home, or don't they have to explain the reason for a strike?

Head doesn't tend to explain reason beyond due to strike action. Not sure why, other than not getting 'involved'. There have been many 'local' strikes. They tend to be on issues that have more of a direct effect on students as they're decided on a local basis. I've heard of strikes where a violent (to pupils and staff) pupil is allowed back into class with no sanctions or support for example.
