I am so angry this will sound very ranty:( I am sorry for that. My little girl has a cold with feather on and off for 3weeks and I went to the school and asked them not to take her out swimming because she always comes back cold and wet and the swimming pool they are using is cold and has cold showers. First her class teacher told me I can not pull her out of swimming, so I wrote letter to the headteacher. The headteacher wrote back saying it's ok to miss one week but she hopes Kate (my daughter) will feel better by next week. Well this Monday she got antibiotics for her cough and I said to the teacher not to take her swimming (I did not bring her swimming things to make sure). THEY TOOK HER SWIMMIMG ANYWAY!!!!! She came back with wet socks and wet hair as well.
To make things worse they gave her a spare swimsuit and Kate said it was smelly and damp!!!
What can I do???

Sorry there is a mistake I asked them not to take her swimming.

You could write to the Governors. It is recommended that you don't do any exercise when you have a cold/virus, the school went against your wishes on a health issue which they shouldn't have done. If you write send a copy of the head teachers letter to you.

MMmomKK · 21/01/2015 21:00

You could try to get a note from her doctor - the one who gave her antibiotics.

Our old school had a silly rule about swimming w/o goggles. She hated swimming w/o goggles, I got my daughter's optician to write a note about DD's eyes being sensitive.

Is swimming off site?

LIZS · 21/01/2015 21:06

I suspect the policy is that if they are well enough to be in school they should be well enough to participate in all activities. Why would she be at school with a fever. Most coughs are viral in origin so wouldn't respond to abs unless there is an underlying infection .

Lisalisa699 · 21/01/2015 21:15

It is an offsite swimming pool, we have been in there it is freezing!!! And changing rooms are like wind tunnel.

Well this is a think if she is running feather I keep her off school until she is better, but still with runny nose and a cough she comes back to school ( it is their policy) alternative is to miss 3+ Weeks of school) the logic about being well enough to go to school well enough to participate in all activities is a little odd. If you brake a leg you can go to school but you probably shouldn't swim or run... Time off school vs time of swimming ... It is year 2as well.

Did she remind the teacher about the letter, Is It the same staff who accompany them as you wrote to ?

sockmatcher · 21/01/2015 21:32

Its really quite simple you are withdrawing consent for her to be off site/ transported by contracted transport.... Regardless of activity. Regardless of whether they agree.

Branleuse · 21/01/2015 21:33

i think if shes that ill, then keep her home. Esp if shes on antibiotics. poor mite

Stealthpolarbear · 21/01/2015 21:36

How old is she?
What's the feather?

Mostlyjustaluker · 21/01/2015 21:39

What did she wear? Surely if you did not want her to go swimming you did nit send her in with her swimming stuff.

DeliciousMonster · 21/01/2015 21:41

Fever.

DeliciousMonster · 21/01/2015 21:41

What did she wear?

The spare swimsuit as mentioned in the Opening post.

Stealthpolarbear · 21/01/2015 21:42

Ah thank you
I can help with the other question -smelly spare swimsuit

bamboostalks · 21/01/2015 21:43

Generally if in school, then all activities should be done as normal. Who is going to supervise? Perhaps you could keep her at home until the swimming is over then drop her in?

steppeinginto2015 · 21/01/2015 21:48

sockmatcher has a good point, you removed permission for her to go, therefore they can't take her off site.

It is not that unusual for a child to have to miss pe for one reason or another.

write to head. If you are calm, clear and firm you are most likely to get a response.
If no response, write again and say it is a formal complaint, and copy to governors.

One thing you need to think about is what you want from them - do you want an apology, do you want a promise about future swimming? It is much easier to do this if you are clear about what you want at the end.

Lisalisa699 · 21/01/2015 22:05

I did not send the swimming staff with her, so they gave her (as my 7year old puts it) damp and smelly swimming suit that was too big ...

I have sent an email to the head teacher explaining my concern and to her class teacher as I have told her that morning NOT TO TAKE her swimming. I have also revoked my permission for her to go anywhere beyond the school gate.

"You could write to the Governors. It is recommended that you don't do any exercise when you have a cold/virus, "

Recommended by who?

Lisalisa699 · 23/01/2015 21:16

I did write a letter sent it is be email and by letter... Makes me fuming... She said in her first letter that she assumes she will get better ( previous Monday and says it's ok to miss swimming with a heavy cough) but yet this week (19th jan) I told teacher not to take her swimming but she did anyway.... I have sent another letter asking for an explanation. I got a vague letter from head saying she assumed she would get better so she went swimming and that she MUST GO swimming and that she passed on the complainet to the governers. (the GP said she should not be swimming) I feel like they violating their duty of care!

I suspect the teacher as lovely as she is, is neglectful in 3 month we had a boy being strangled twice children disappeared at the end of the day (she did not call the nut they just came out and went to the playground for a wonder) I am actually scared of letting my daughter go to school:(

Can I ask state or private?

footallsock · 24/01/2015 07:31

Mine always go swimming with a cold unless they are ill enough that they would be off school. However if you expressly told school no swimming then that's not really on
